Is it no way to turn off that function in the system menu?

I don't have TPMS, so when I swapped to winter wheels yesterday - no problems

+3 celsius outside this morning, and it is supposed to be below zero in the mornings in the coming days, so timing seems good. Very little road noise from the Nokian Hakka R as well, so it was a comfy ride to work today

 

It is still stupidly warm here e.g for london it shows a peak of 20 degrees but i anticipate a sharp drop soon.

 

You just get an empty display after startup that goes away, not a problem.

I'm after some tpms as well - never had them before but now like the security of knowing all four tyres are ok. I remember reading a thread from last year about buying them out in the US?

The I-Sensor ones come from a UK company, the German seller is the cheapest I found that sends them preprogrammed the only cheaper way I found was to become a reseller and invest in the programmer and then we would all have to comit to a bulk purchase to make it work so as the German seller was about half the price if the factory TPMS I went that route.

 

Spoke to my tyre guy who said no problem to fit the sensors, think I'm going with the recommendation from Loz.

Bought my I-sensors from tpms warehouse, a uk reseller. £279. Doubtless the German sourced ones may be cheaper but im happy enough. Supplied programmed to the treg, delivered direct to my fitters within 48 hours, good. Fitted with my new pirelli N1 ice+snows by a Tyre Leader listed fitter.

The fitters suggested they may need to reprogramme the ECU, for an additional cost. Don't do this!

When I collected the car they said they couldn't program the ECU and referred me to a vw dealer. Don't do this!

Tpms warehouse site says they can clone your sensors. I spoke with them, to clone your summer wheel tpms they need your original ones. Don't do this!

Neither my tyre fitters, nor tpms warehouse appear to know that the treg is intelligent enough to sort itself out!
The supplied sensors, programmed for my vehicle type, are simply being read by the treg. No error messages and adjusting when being inflated and as the tyres warm/cool.

Now, if only it would turn a bit chillier, as I feel I've visited the pit lane a few laps early!
Happy with my winter tyre choice from a noise/dry perspective. Doubtless the mildest winter ever beckons.

 

My winters are 18's and I'll be fitting 255/55

I'm going with the Ultra Grips because of their good rating in the wet but I am tempted by the Vreds.

 

Given we have a lot more rain than snow/ice I would not hesitate to the get the Ultra Grips. I have the Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds because I bought with the rims - wet grip rating is not good, but they are very quiet for a winter tyre. Pirellis and Contis have good winter wet grip ratings aswell. I personally look for a tyre with a rim protector too. Good luck.

I use the Vredesteins on all our cars but the design is now several years old. Go with something newer.

The Tyre Pressure warning came on at -0.1 Bar on 3 wheels recently, which I assume was due to recent temperature drop.
Inflated the tyres to correct pressures, but warning stays on

I decided to look for winter tyres [275/45 R20 110V] and searched the web for the best deal.

You run the very real risk of damaging both wheels and tyres if you keep swapping them by removing summers, fitting winters, removing winters, fitting summers, etcetera etcetera, plus the cost each time.

For another hundred quid at the outset you can have a brand new set of 18 inch wheels and winter tyres from Tyremen, Hull.

 

Totally agree with the "NoobyT" to just have second set of wheels is a doddle to swap over ( with right basic kit) you saw from the post above just over thirty mins - versus going to the tyre fitters risking alloy damage on tyre swaps additionally how many times can a tyre be swapped I dont know, Probie had a wheel damaged on tyre replacement so its not something I would entertain.

 

Fitting winter wheels won't invalidate your warranty, but if you have no storage space then a second set of wheels is not a practical proposition.

 

My winters are staying put in the garage/storage until the weather drops consistently below 7C. The longer term weather forecast doesn't seem to indicate really bad weather until after the New Year

We did have a short periode of cold weather here (just below freezing), but it only lasted for a few days. After that it has been rather mild and very wet.

The weather forecast do indicate another cold periode starting at the beginning of next week, but as Cass says - the long time forecast still indicates mild weather till the end of this year.

So changing to winters have probabely been a bit too early, and on the mildest days I do try to drive "slow and easy" with as little strain on the tires as possible. The temperatures vary between +3 and +10, so it's not that bad, but summers would have been good so far - unless you take a trip up in the mountains, which I do not have any current plans of doing.

 

You're correct that we're having unseasonable weather conditions, but it all depends on where you live and if you take into consideration the wind chill factor

In my location, in two weeks time, the wind chill model shows that we'll be down to 0°C [unless the model was done by Michael Fish]
I travel in the High Peak [both White & Dark], so I don't consider it TOO early to change

One guy I spoke to in Elgin last year, who has his own tyre centre and is a Black Circles fitter, runs his pickup on Vredstein Wintrac Extremes all year around and doesn't seem to suffer abnormal wear (I guess it wouldn't matter too much if you had your own tyre business but he didn't seem the frivolous type to me).

I think that once it gets below 10 deg, even a couple of times a week, it pays to be on the winters as you never know when you are going to need those sipes

The handbook says it will go off on it's own - but it doesn't

Does it have to be reset at a dealer?

 

When I had a flat I had the warning, repaired the tyre pumped it up and the car was happy again i did not have to reset anything.

 

Thanks for the recommendation Loz, I had my winters fitted today with the new TPMS and they worked as soon as I turned the car on.

Was only thinking it might be time to dust off the pikes and put them back on this weekend...

 

OK so Pikes on (swapped fronts for rears, although only on the shoulder was there much difference in wear) and Karakums cleaned and in the garage (Dunlop 3Ds seem to be wearing well). Car washed, Millers added, summer washer fluid added, battery on Ctek charge overnight. Easter here we come. Expect snow any day now...

Locking wheel nut key did not crack this time which sped things up a bit. Inflated to 35/42...and that is exactly what the TPMS said. Impressed with its accuracy.
