Thanks chaser. I will document for posterity. No there's no need to remove the inlet manifold. You may want to remove that coolant pipe though.
Happy to do so - those natives that can read the post will no doubt be appreciative.Don't forget to update the site over the pond as well and send the love from Robin Hood to the natives![]()
Hi Bassist i too had the same problem as you fan was coming on when ignition key was in thus would drain the battery after a while if engine not started, The code i was getting was for the temp sensor (over temp) which i had replaced under warranty but this did still not rectify the problem, The problem with mine was a wiring fault, I think the sensor was about £30 but the dealership that done mine took the manifold off so i had to replace gaskets etc.Hi all
Looking for a kind soul to provide a picture of the locations of the 2 temp sensors on an R 5, which I propose to change as the fans stay on when the vehicle is switched on but not running - which I understand from reading around the subject is likely caused by duff sensors. If anyone knows whether changing both is necessary, and how to, that would also be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.
Bassist

Now replaced by a mechanic- could not get to the thing with the inlet manifold on. Huge improvement and got to clean out the egr at the same time (though not sure whether the sensor or the egr clean did most to improve the running). No there's no need to remove the inlet manifold.
