Replaced stuck towbar error still remains

Hi, not sure if anyone can help me with this but here we go…

So I have a 2018 mk3 Touareg and the old swivelling towbar unit had seized which has given me an error message in the dash saying “please check towing bracket lock”.

I managed to source a working replacement unit and have got that fitted but the warning is still on the dash and it won’t move, however it does make a noise like it wants too.

My question is do I need to clear the fault code for the stuck lock or do I need to program the module for the towing bracket to tell it where in the cycle the unit is?

If anyone could help that would be great!!

Not really sure if this is the best topic group to put this in.

Deleting the fault code would be my first thing as logically it would be considered a safety critical fault and they normally require such action.
From there if the fault persists then follow with whatever the actual fault code directs you to.

There's a basic setting that runs a test sequence/ calibration. You may need to run that if clearing the error code doesn't help.
I assume you've extended and retracted the tow ball a few times since fitting the replacement?

As you'll see a few posts down from yours, I have the same problem but since I have extended warranty I'm waiting for the dealer to look at it in a few weeks. In case they say the warranty doesn't cover a replacement tow bar, I'd be interested to know where you got yours from and how much you've paid for it?

Let us know how it goes.
I can still hear my mine trying to do something. There's always the possibility it's an electrical fault, bad connection or the control unit that lives in the boot..

So how've you got on?

Has he tried disconnecting the tow hitch from the control unit, clearing the fault code and seeing if it remains clear with the hitch disconnected? You should still be able to address the control unit with nothing connected to it. It may complain that nothing's connected but it shouldn't complain there's a hitch lock failure.
If the error does clear with the hitch disconnected and returns when you reconnect, it would point to the replacement bar you have being faulty too. VCDS, in theory, should be able to calibrate it.
Otherwise, hopefully you can find someone with ODIS
