MPG and reliability of v10

To take the engine out and put it back in is 30 hours labour before any other work and you need a special cradle to drop the entire engine/transmission.

Turbos can go - best replaced in pairs because you have to drop the engine.

Engines have been known to go - ÂŁ12,000 a pop.

Valve chest in the gearbox - ÂŁ2,000

Gearbox - ÂŁ5,000.

Very few mechanics really know them and you'll be lucky if you can find an independent who does.

If you have VERY deep pockets and can take a big hit, then by all means buy one and enjoy it.

If you are being sensible, think very, VERY carefully.....

And a good remap for ÂŁ300 or thereabouts puts it in 3.0 litre mode!

I've nothing at all against the V10 for anyone who can afford it.

The problem is that like many Touaregs it is now within reach of a lot of people who may have little or no idea of just how very expensive the car can be if it goes wrong.

When I read that someone is on a tight budget [asking about mpg is always a good clue quite apart from other things the OP dropped in to his post] then I think it would doing them a great disservice not to put the cards on the table.

I've also done this where I think that even a 2.5 or a 3.0 may perhaps be beyond someone's intended budget from comments they've posted, so it's not just the V10 that's had a red card from me!

Warranties don't always cover everything but they should take care of the transmission and engine up to a point.

However many companies won't touch cars like the V10 or their claim limits are simply derisory.

Warranty Direct will cover you, but they'll probably want to send an engineer to look it over first which is fine but bear in mind that, although they cover the labour, at 60K you will pay the first 10% for parts, 70K is 20%, 80K is 30%, 90% is 40% and 100K is 50% so on a big job you can be adrift by quite a bit.

A tenner a week extra for fuel isn't a lot to pay to really enjoy something - it's less than an Costa Capsize espresso a working day for example - so I wouldn't knock it on those grounds [geddit!?!].

P.S. Isn't mal French for BAD?!

535D is a nice car . . . especially with a remap!!

Enjoy.

The Tourer is the best of the lot. Just needs de-badging too!!

Bluddy Norah! WHAT profile are those? Or are they just elastic bands??

That's 2.9 inches of sidewall on the front and 3.1 on the rear.

Yep. As I thought. RUBBER BANDS!!
