I dont think this is a bulb problem at the moment though, curiously the light will work for a short while and then goes out again.

Any way it is booked into the dealer who said they would look over it and thought themselves it should be warranty work.

Time will tell.

Driving around town and country lanes was very annoting tonight for oncoming drivers, the light has now decided it has a mind of its own, and is flashing on / off at random intervals almost like a flourescent light with a faulty starter.

Hi Biggles,

My NS xenon did this on main beam when turning left. "Faulty lamp unit" diagnosed and replaced under warranty.

Sounds like you have a similar problem.

Thanks Alex,

I can only hope it is a warranty item after checking out the price of replacement bulbs, having said that though the price is worth it for the light htey give out, I would never ever go back to standard bulbs willingly.

good news just spoke to the service man at Corkhills, Wigan.

Whole headlight will be replaced under warranty, parts ordered and will be fitted next Tuesday.

I love it when things work out OK.

1 up for Corkhills first time I have decided to use them and happy so far.

update to this,

I rang Corkhills yesterday to ensure it was still OK to take the car in today for the replacement headlight, the said they had no record of me confirming the booking. ahem, I must have been talking to myself when I said to the service man "Yes Tuesday is fine, see you next week then".

Corkhills originally said the work was a warranty replacement, after having the car fo a full day to asses the problem last week.

I then re booked the car to have the work done, now they are telling me the problem is caused by water ingress to the headlight seal and is not warranty work. They are saying the silcon seal apparantly has been tampered with. news to me.

Why the hell they did not notice this before and mention it then is beyond me.
He qouted ?625.00 or there abouts for the new headlamp unit, which I have told him to remove and replace with my old one as I would not be paying for it after being told the works where warranty work.

First and last visit to them from me.

Hi Biggles,

That is totally disgusting!

I would get on to the service manager at Corkhills immediately and explain to him what has happened.

You even have dated Treg forum evidence that you had spoken with them and that they had confirmed that it was warranty work.

They had the car to inspect on the previous occasion and never noted the damaged or tampered with seal.

Dig your heels in on this they are bang out of order.

I know that VW support are not the greatest help at times but I would certainly contact them on this and let Corkhills know that you are.

Don't let them get away with it.

Good luck

Tom

I will certaily be doing just that in the morning, been a busy day today at work and was glad to get the car back.

The more I think about it, I feel slightly annoyed in the fact I was told it was warranty work after them having a full day to inspect the light and discover the problem originally.
