Hi Guys

Just been out in the wifes car and noticed one of the back tyres has a big chunk taken out of it (down to the wire) so needs to be replaced.

The car is presently on Bridgestones and I understand both back tyres will need to be replaced but I was thinking of upgrading to a set of Grabber UHPs when I change them.

1) Would I need to change all 4?
2) Can anyone recomend anyone in Newcastle/Northumberland area?

My recommendation would be to change all 4 if possible. If you do you should notice a nice difference in the ride quality with the UHPs

Cheers
That is what I am thinking of doing, the other problem is the wheels are badly scratched from a 4x4 day so not sure if to pay to re-furb all at the same time.

It is not an expense I was expecting and the re-furb will no doubt cost to

Any ideas on where to get them from around the North East for a good price?

I will probally look at 4 wheel allignment/tracking at same time to make sure they last well

The maximum tread depth variation bewteen tyres as suggested by VW is 3 mm.

So if the pair of tyres that you could leave on the car have 6mm or more you only need two new tyres as the new UHPs come with 9mm.

Otherwise you need a set of 4.

If all of your tyres have worn evenly in terms of remaining tread depth, and also worn evenly across the width of the tread, then an alignment is not essential in my view.

Good advice.
My old tyres(pirelli PZeros) had worn evenly on all 4 wheels but at 14k they needed replacing.I replaced with Grabbers.
My feeling was that my alignment was ok but I had to know for sure.
The before and after print outs were similar, slightly out but not enough to make a difference.
But I had to know.

just read your post and ?520 for four tyres seems very expensive to me, you should have been able to pick up uhp's for just about ?100 a corner fitted without too much trouble. i know it's a bit late for you now but worth shopping around in future i would say.

Depends on rim size surely?

I paid around the 550 mark for 4 275/40/20 UHP's and I did shop around and got a price match.

Sometimes the cheapest is not always the best

Event Tyres, whom a number of us have used and been very pleased with in terms of both price and service, would have charged ?569 for 4 UHP Grabbers in that size so IMHO you've done well!

my mistake, i didn't know you were on about 20's, i thought it was 18's. about ?550 is right for 20's in a uhp

Hi Guys

I needed them quick and am happy with the price and service

Got the wheels re-furnished in grey anthracite instead of the normal silver, possibly not to everyones taste but I wanted it to look a little different without going for aftermarket wheels. So far I have had positive coments from all who have seen them.

The pics are not great as I need to clean the car urgently.

I think it makes it look much more agressive with the colour and chunky tyres

Comments welcome ,good or bad

Thanks for the comments guys,

No daytime pics yet im afraid. Hopefully DIY tasks permitting I will find some time to clean it tomorrow and take some better ones. The car hasnt been washed in the last 6 weeks which is unheard of for me as I have just been to busy

We had a set fitted at the beginning of the month. Sadly, Event tyres won't come up to Aberdeen to fit them (disgraceful!
) so TAWSE TYRES in Inverurie ( our local tyrefitter) did them for ?600 supplied and fitted. even fitted and set up the aftermarket TPMS as well.

So far....... well pleased with the result. A slightly softer sidewall compared to the Bridgestone Dueller but as they are a summer tyre and we're getting close to the bad time of year up here ( 2'' of snow is not uncommon for the majority of Winter out here) the car can still be driven briskly withot issue

Considering the Tread these things have, they are actually quieteer than the Bridgestones too!

All things considered....................... RESULT!!
