Calling all 4.2 V8 Petrol owners - whats your average mpg?
I think with having a V8, it should be inpolite to ask....

Like asking a lady her age.....

I'm sure Nick and N8ens will lie, just like me...!

but just think how upset you would have been if I'd missed you out

Not sure if I am the specific "Nick" you are referring too, but not overly-bothered by the MPG - hence I bought this model. Previous car was a BMW 540i and that was returning only 2-3 mpg better overall. If I was worried about the MPG, I would have bought a bike and joined the Treg Weightloss challenge too!

NickW

PS I voted earlier!

I think you need different bands of MPG for the V8 - like: below-15, 15-17, 17-19, 19-21, 21-you're lying!!!

Curiously, I averaged 20.4mpg for the last 4,000 miles before the 2nd service, cambelt change and new tyres (at 28,000 miles in December) and have averaged only 19.3mpg since... Can't imagine my 285 wide tyres all round help the MPG too much either...

I do moan a bit sometimes about the mpg (well, only when on company business) but I've worked out that none of my previous 9 cars did more than 30mpg (like NickW that includes an E34 540i Touring, an E39 540i Touring and an E61 545i Touring), no car I lust after or could contemplate buying would do more than 25mpg and I hate the dirt and smell of diesel, so I've convinced myself that 19mpg is acceptable after all!!! Besides, no other Touareg can provide the aural delights of a bent-eight, especially through the ABT exhaust... mmm!

I've given a realistic average in the poll, but I really can get 24-26 on a run down to the west country, which I do very often... But that's playing the 'get the best MPG' game.....

I've never liked a car so much as this........
MPG is of no concern to me given the low mileage I do (<4k/year). I just love the sound of a petrol V8.

However, I quite understand the environmental concerns etc. It just makes me sad that in 20 years time I probably won't be able to choose to drive a petrol V8. Still, it's something I look forward to telling the grandchildren about.

PS. I'm waiting to hear back from Scuderia systems about whether or not the Tubi sports exhaust they've created for the Porsche Cayenne will fit my Touareg...Should sound fantastic...
I'd be interested to know the outcome of that too...
Just spent the last two days driving a rented Kia Cee'd 1.6 diesel approx. 800kms across Belgium and Holland and achieved... 34.1mpg. Hardly that supersonic (especially against the hopelessly optimisitic EU figures) and just shows that even alledgely v.economical cars aren't really that much more economical in the real world... I know, I know, no matter what argument I use 19mpg is not acceptable and I'm a selfish bigot killing the plannet sinlge handedly with my 10,000 mile per year carbon footprint in my Chelsea Tractor...
