so thats 3 treg vanners, all with Abbeys.... What good taste we all have

Si
AND MY ABBEY Freestlye 640 !!!

25mpg over 420 miles to Holland at Easter (after Simon @ E-maps attention!)

Highlights were:
1) topping the big cutting/hill on the M40 south of Oxford at 75mph
2) doing same climbing out of Dover on A20 whilst overtaking a Mk2 Disco and Isuzu Trooper with similar size caravans struggling to do 40mph (been there myself in the past in a Frontera...)
3) Being told to slow down from 80 by SWIMBO during one particularly loud Oasis song....

lol, go on then, what is it ?
We've not got a mover on ours, although when we move house, we may need one to get it into the tight spot on the new gravel drive .....

Si
Got same but am not that impressed - movers really dont work well on loose surfaces, the non-driven wheels just give too much resistance and the driven ones just turn in the gravel !!

When we moved house last year, ended up spending ?6k removing the pretty gravelled drive and replacing it with imprinted concrete which we had in previous house for 9 years without it ageing / cracking / problems.

Similar problem with mover on sandy grass in Holland this year and France last year.

Meld,

you run with the blinds down? I only ever put the blinds down when in the caravan and it's dark outside. On the move blinds up
in storage curtains closed.

You will just end up buggering the springs.

I agree but on the day of the photo we were travelling 14 hrs through france in 40 degree heat, and it helped keep the heat down inside the van.

Apparently (so I heard) its also illegal (technically) to have the blinds down while towing in the UK. The police like to be able to see in to make sure theres no one inside.....

Aparrently...

Si
it's also illegal to tow over 60mph but we all do it.

Nice set up you got there Mr Meld, looks good....

Totally agree about the Treg and ability to overtake in the most unlikely places.

A30 way to Devon overtaking other units up hill, it's great... Couldn't even keep count last time...

When towing with my Fat Boy Vitara (qute fitting really...
)when I was 19 I'd be lucky if I could over take 2 in a 200 mile trip...!

noiseweight

only thing to bear in mind is i found whilst reading the various manuals ALKO hitch limit is 100Kg for my spectrum i personally like the van nose heavy but on the new twin (ive only towed 500 ish miles with it so not yet been over about 70 with it as im still "feeling my way") i found i couldn't really change it by loading which was interesting.

we used to have large rear washroom which swmbo liked, now we have to large independent living areas and a alrge enough space i can actually cook in most of the large twins seem to be now fixed bed which is no good for us.

also im 6 foot 5 so has to be a swift van to be able to stand up, love the abbey it is just one dam heavy van, has a mover (came with it S/H) limited use this was a 1500 mover apparently it can move van back and forwards but struggles to run it even with help

love the way the treg looks with a van on the back.

Noseweight - assuming the car can take it - should be 7% of gross caravan weight (so 1700kg van = 119kg noseweight)

I have always loaded vans to 7% noseweight and they have always been very stable.

The science behind this is that at speed, your noseweight REDUCES because of the wind hitting the front of the van and creating lift.

NAP - Simon mentioned you had my dimensions !!!! And yes, the Abbey had most headroom !!!
