Good morning,

I am in Harare, Zimbabwe and I have a 2008 V6 TDi R-Line. There is sparse support here for VW so I am hoping you can help because I love this vehicle and am loathe to get shot of it.

Ordinarily when turning the ignition key the engine turns over till it fires but now it turns over a couple of times and then stops. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

You need to scan it with VCDS to see what's going on.

Can't say with any certainty but sounds similar to other instances which turned out to be caused by a faulty crank sensor.
Particularly if it tends to occur more often when hot.
A fault code won't necessarily be stored.
No guaranties but cheap and easy enough to try.

100% crank sensor, I've just replaced mine after it would turn over twice before stopping with no warning lights etc. I think if you lift the bonnet and try again it should turn over for longer but I suspect it won't start. The AA started mine with brake fluid sprayed in to the inlet, to get it started, once its running it seems to be ok. Be careful if spray brake cleaner as the engine can run away. The part was not expensive but its a ball ache to get to, the crank sensor is up on the back of block near the gearbox accessed through some power steering pipes.
