I have so far put up with the increasingly inept service fom my current dealer (2004 V10 Tdi bought new from them), but after its latest return with two alloys scratched, I have had enough. As I approach 80,000 miles with a new winch, side bars, undertray and bull bar about to be installed by a specialist (I will let you know how I get on for anyone who is interested), I would appreciate any good news stories from fellow owners of garages who know the make and offer high service standards. Any recommendations, preferrably in the South East.

Hi Tallman,

As a fellow V10 enthusiast I will be interested in hearing how you get on with your planned modifications - especially the winch and the undertray.

I guess the damage to your alloys is just pure carelessness - garages with specific V10 experience are very thin on the ground.
The V10 is a relatively rare model and it is still a young engine in terms of needing repairs and therefore has not engendered much experience amongst mechanics. That is not to say that there are not excellent mechanics out there who have a lot of enthusiasm for our engine - it is well respected!

However, you will find no quicker way of clearing the workshop floor of technicians at a VW dealership than saying: "Got a V10 here lads with a problem. Who wants the job?"
Most of the techs will suddenly find themselves very busy doing something else!
They don't have experience of the engine and are scared of it basically - it is just so complex.
They see loads of 2.5s, quite a few V6s and a few V8s but some VW garages have only seen a handful of V10s since 2003!

I don't live in your area so can't help you with a recommendation but if I were you I would e-mail all the independent VW specialists in your region and ask them straight out whether they have the experience and enthusiasm for working on the V10.

Cheers,
John.

Several of us have found VW Windrush service [different location to the sales site] at Maidenhead to be very helpful. They are 5 minutes from J8/9 M4.

A Tregger's relative is one of the techies and they watch this site so will be aware pretty quickly if any of us complain.

They are also open to price matching too [though they probably wish I'd shut up about that!]

So if they are handy for you, ring them up and have a chat about your V10. Better still, call in and eyeball them.

[But don't bother with the coffee unless you need to remove paint anywhere!!]
