Booked the treg in last week with the local dealership to get the tyre wear situation sorted. Dealership very helpful (loan car etc) but called me later to say they were not authorised (by V.W) to sort out problem and the treg had to be taken to a specialist technology centre even though the local dealership are authorised to sell and service tregs??? Treg has gone in today to local dealer who have given us a loan car and they are then taking it to the specialist centre. Bizarre situation altogether. Main wear is front passenger side tyre which has worn down on outer edge, should hear later today whether its the tracking (50% tyre cost) or the transfer box (no cost). Also trying to get wipers sorted out as driving me and the wife nuts!

What's with this crap about having to contribute 50% of replacement tyre costs???

I've read other postings on here suggesting it is acceptable to pay circa 50% contribution becasue "we got X thousand miles from them before VW agreed to change them" or some other similar statement.

Consider this:
If the engine blew up after X thousand miles, would you accept VW asking you to contribute to 50% of the replacement cost on the basis that you did manage to get X thousand miles from the engine before it really needed replacing?

Of course you wouldn't so why accept this lame response over your tyres?

VW paid for my new tyres despite having 11,000 miles on the clock. I had no hassle from VW (thank god).

Good luck - and tell them that your know of others that have not paid for tyres with similar mileage.

Very true - after all, if a vehicle is supplied faulty from the factory then why should it matter at what point/mileage this build issue is rectified.

In my experience most lux car mfrs will even go as far as to rectify factory build issues outside of warranty - sometimes FOC and sometimes with a contribution from the owner - BMW, Porsche & Mercedes have always taken this approach.

What year is your T-reg???
last week I had Bridgesone engineers on site to examine truck tyres. They noticed that three of the treg tyres were showing signs of outer shoulder wear and the o/s/f was showing stress marks. None of the tyres were indicating excessive wear across the tread. The dealer took the car in and perfomed a software upgrade (FEB 06 car)mileage 5500. They then fitted 4 new tyres FOC. in addition they also carried out the mod to the drivers seat ( manual) they delivered an immaculate Touareg to my office and left it till day three. I did not ask for treg loaner anything would have done. Dealer kept me informed throughout, first class knowledgeable staff. As for the comments re tyre contribution costs, if its a warranty issue there should be no charge. If its an alignment problem its always going to be difficult to prove its manufacturer error or driver?? This is now treg 3 and this is the first time ive had any tyre problems. BTW the dealer was Smith Knight Fay at both Bolton and Stockport

Trailerman - sounds like you received the excellent service that every Touareg owner would hope to receive - unfortunately it seems that as with other things, some dealers are better at dealing with customers, sorting out warranty issues and liaising with VW than others are.

I see your point regarding the alignment issue but in this case the problem wasn't restricted to one or two cars where kerbing or heavy use could have knocked things out of kilter - it's been a well catalogued issue and therefore IMHO there should be no dispute on who picks up the tab.

Just my tuppence

Finally got Treg back today after 2 days at specialist centre. Tracking had proved to be slightly off so four new Pirelli Scorpions fitted, vehicle apparentley has the new spec wiper arms so needs new wiper blades. Good service from both dealerships both in Dorchester and Poole. Had to pay the 50% for the tyres but looks like the Dealership that sold us the vehicle 5 weeks ago are going to re-imburse me for it, should hear tomorrow.

Got mine back today after being with my dealer since Tuesday morning.

Software upgrade done for 4WD system.

New wiper bits (that don't judder anymore).

Full wheel alignment.

4 new tyres.

Car valeted and no mention of any charge or contribution of any kind - well done (again!) Colbornes of Guilford who demonstrated (again!) their consistently high level of customer service.

Excellent Rod, just as it should be.

Publically praise the good dealers, expose the shoddy ones. It's the only way to make it better for us all.

My Dealer still has not got back to me as yet, re the wiper blades

Hint, Hint, Nigel

Don,'t make me ring Sir Bob

Time is ticking Treg meet only 2 weeks away

Good news on the tyres front
Heard back from the dealer that sold us the vehicle today, they are stumping up for the other 50% so four free tyres
, so a good result all round. Threads on forum re:tyres/tracking proved invaluable as dealers didn't have a leg to stand on as I took the print out in with me! Two dealers involved in sorting out Treg were both very good, Loders in Dorchester and Breeze in Poole
