I'm New to this forum but as all seem a friendly bunch I thought I would ask a quick question regarding the brakes on my 2.5 tdi;

I recently (Yesterday) purchased a 54 Plate 2.5 TDi - prior to the purchase and during the test drive I pointed out that the brakes were far from effective!! (lots of travel and a bit of judder - judder possibly from the ABS system)

I was told this problem had been rectified by fitting new disks and pads to the rear of my car, and that all was now well (which I was happy with as the dealer had been very helpfull and seemed to be going out of their way to assist) - The braking has been vastly improved but I would still like to know if 1) has anyone else required new rear disks in 18months and 19,000 miles and 2) when starting the car does you brake pedal pull down to the floor slightly?? (approx 10mm)

It might all be nothing but I just thought I'd ask

There have been some entries about discs being changed at first service, etc., along with pads and varied opinions about if it is dealers being over zealous (being kind to them...some have a little more harsh things to say
)

Don't know myself, but I am sure some with higher lileage than me (10k) may offer some comments.

Mines a 54 plate 2.5 and at the service a couple of weeks ago I was told the brake pads were 60-70% worn (car done 38k) which I am extremely pleased with, and should last till 50k before needing changing.

For such a heavy car I think this is outstanding !!!

With respect to your last observation, I may be able to assist.

Is your Treg a 2.5 manual.If yes read on.

What was the year of manufacture(not registration), if its 2004, you may be entitled to a brake system upgrade, however you will need to be quick!!

Early 2004 models did not have brake assist software uploaded to the Hi speed section of the brake controller. Somebody goofed at VW.
This can be rectified via a software download.

Late 2003 and very early 2004 Tregs can be retro fitted with a
1. New brake system and controller.
2. software upgraded.

I have had mine replaced after bringing the anomaly to there attention.

OHM.

OHM - My Treg is an auto so I assume that the missing software was just for the manuals?

I got a second opinion on the tregs brakes today and the feedback is they are fine no problems - so thankyou for all the info.

Yes , the problems was only with the manual type, and good to hear that the problem is resolved.
