Hi,

I have read several threads on the site regarding TMC , but none that seem to answer a couple of questions. (2007 SE, with DVD SatNav) These being -

1. Does TMC work in the UK with a 2007 Touareg ? - I have my second tuner set to TMC, but only EVER get the message "Seeking TMC Station". I am aware that Classic FM, for example, is a TMC station, and have radio reception to that in most areas.

2. IS TMC implemented with the 2007 SatNav system (Version 4 DVD, I think).

I have read the handbook from cover to cover several times (sad , I know) so I am sure that it is set-up properly. I tried the luxury car help line who told me to contact my local VW Stafford dealer. VW Stafford do not maintain Touaregs, so I tried my supplying dealer who put me in touch with a technician who hadn't a clue about TMC, only RDS Travel programs.

Can anyone help shed some light on this.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi TMC does work in the UK as you have surmised, it is the DVD that has to have the ITIS codes that will enable the system to work. Don't forget it only covers motorways and quite frankly it is not worth it IMO. Most DVD systems in the UK do not come with the codes on the disk there are a few exceptions such as Volvo/Ford. However in Europe it is pretty good and the system works well and will work with the DVD supplied in your vehicle.
I would go further the systems supplied in for example Aston Martin do not come with the DVD ITIS codes for the UK and again they are there for Europe.

I finally got fed up with the lack of TMC and purchased the latest 2008 disk from TeleAtlas. I've only had it for a few days but the TMC is certainly working and the post codes that I had issue with now also work.

Thanks for the replies to the post.

My vehicle was supplied with the Version 4 DVD (Delivered Jan 2008) - I don't suppose that this is the same version as the 2008 one ?

If not, I will ask the supplying dealer whether it should have been ! -The car was advertised with TMC. Worth a try ?

Waiting for a reply from the dealer, but just loaded the Version 4 DVD on my computer to make a backup.

Some interesting infomation on the info.txt file.

Version 4 DVD is based on map data from 2006.

It supposedly has TMC support for the following - a01vx-1.0 409vx-5.0 601vx-2.0 817vx-2003A 225vx-1.36 d01vx-5.01 e17vx-1.6 f32vx-5.1 501vx-2.0 909vx-7.00 617vx-1.31 f49vx-1.4.2004 e33vx-1.1.2005. I assume that none of these codes is for the UK.

The version is also know as Europe 2007, map data from TeleAtlas and program from ViaMichelin

I'll wait and see of the dealer ever calls back.

I purchased mine from here http://navigation.teleatlas.com/en/shop/ and drilled down through the various manufacturer, model questions and came out with this one (EAN 9 789042 806627):

http://navigation.teleatlas.com/en/shop ... r6379.html

I've had it a while now and it is certainly much more up to date than the disk I received from new (reg July 07). The TMC has so far been useful and pretty accurate. I managed to avoid a serious tail back in London a few weeks ago and it quickly picked up an accident on the M11 (unfortunately I couldn't avoid the congestion but at least I had an idea how quick the traffic was moving and where it ended
).

I haven't resolved any 7 digit postcodes so far, they have followed the usual 5 + street name (again much better than the disk that came with the car which either had missing streets or in the wrong post code!). I will try some central London post codes and let you know whether the big cities are any different.

I'm happy I made the decision to spend the ?179. I still believe VW should have sent us all updated disks free of charge once the TMC deal was done (given the amount of money the car costs and how out of date the disk appears to be), however it was the only negative feeling I had against the Car and as I intend to keep it for 5 years I wasn't prepared to continue to argue with VW or live without it.

I too, intend to keep my Treg for some time and consider the maps with TMC for the UK a worthwhile investment.

Purchase made from teleatlas shop.

Thanks for everyone's contribution - A example of MyTreg.com working at its best!
