Only had the Treg a couple of days - so please bear with me
I can hear a ticking noise (like an old mechanical clock) on start-up and for up to 10-15 mins after the car has been travelling some distance but the noise seems to stop when the car is warm.
I'm reasonably technie and have a background in vehicle engineering (a long time ago) but this one's bugging me
Sounds electro-mechanical - like a solenoid clicking in and out repeatedly.
Car's have moved on a bit since I was a lad
more like a computer with wheels nowadays.
Anyone know what it is and can put my mind at rest?
Mine does it to, heard it the other night sat outside the local chinese,i had the heated seat on didnt notice how long it went on for though sounds like its more over the passenger side!
Don't worry - it's just the engine warming up and does no damage
It disappears after about 15-20 minutes when the engine is up to full operating temperature
As for what the noise is - haven't a clue!!
But it hasn't caused any problems for me - just becomes a talking point for my 2 year old who sits there going tap tap tap tap as well.......mildly annoying
Perhaps they've taken some bits out of an old Ford Fiesta
Remember the tappits on those things? Sounded like a sowing machine
QUOTE(mjstubley @ Dec 6 2005, 03:35 PM)I get the same noise on cold mornings

It's the pump for the Diesel heater. It kicks in at 6 deg or below.
It happens even without the heater, must admit I haven't tracked it down yet. It was there from the delivery of the vehicle and that was 18 months ago. It was doing it this morning at 04:15 and took around 20mins to go away...
Have noticed this noise too, ever since the weather cooled down. I associated it with something heating/expanding, but all the symptoms were as listed before. Glad to have a technical explanation now though.
I was only joking chaps i also have the same noise and believed it to be the heated seat (her side) so nothing to worry about... unless i have had a a jar or two and she is driving
Now that noise is sorted - why do your rear seats squeek all the bloody time when it gets cold ???
Its getting to the point that I won't go down country lanes anymore - even though I have liberally sprayed silicone spray to every hinge and touching place....

I thought that was just me.
Rear passenger side always when cold.
Bloody annoying but not disastrous as it disappears as soon as the car warms up.
