T1 headlight levelling

Older cars can be fun but often present problems.

I recently swapped the complete headlight units for a pair from a LHD car. All good, especially with Noobys donated Ultinons.

I was following a friend home recently and he complained one headlight was blinding him in his mirror. Having checked, the left side was higher. Long story short, all three afjustment points are age related seized solid and rotating them means nothing actually moves the cogs just skip 🤨

The question is, which of the three adjusters manipulates the low beam up/down? If i can learn that maybe manual (brute force) can adjust it?

I think it's the long adjuster, which gives through the headlight, the parts are still available from the main dealer to repair these, I refurbished my headlights with main dealer parts for around €55
Do you mean the long bar that's visible from the top bulb access point? Or maybe the one that runs underneath outside of the casing?

Do you have more details of the repair kit, part number perhaps?

Your wish is my command :ROFLMAO:

Bearing in mind that my Touareg is rhd with rhd lights
7L6-998-121 and 7L6-998-121-B
7L6-998-122 and 7L6-998-122-B
Are the 4 pieces to repair the headlights from the main dealer, price around €90 for the lot
Excellent, many thanks. Now arises the challenge of getting them here!

Having tinkered with both the RHD and LHD units, their construction is obviously the same, the adjusters are also the same so im pretty confident both LHD and RHD adjusters will be the same. If nothing else, I'll use them to refurb the RHD units and sell them.

Have dropped you another PM 🙂
Just for general information for site members,
I went to my dealer to order these parts for Sarakina and was told that because my Touareg is now over 15 years old, it now falls into the "heritage" category, which means that specific parts cannot be ordered through the dealer, there's a website for ordering now

I hope this helps people

I have tried twice to generate an order but when selecting my country, the UK isn't offered 🤔
Well, some good fortune today. The VW, Ford, Suzuki multi-dealership here has a very helpful parts guy, and he speaks better English than i do Greek.

Armed with the part numbers from above they found both the 'B' part numbers are indeed ex stock in Athens. Hopefully as the up/down adjusters this will be the necessary fix. Cost? €58 here, delivery tomorrow.
Impressive and unusual service on a Greek Island. Parts arrived 'overnight', collected sharp at 8am local time and fitted. Easy adjustment has now been restored 😉
