just noticed recent problems starting the treg. even after waiting for the glow plug warning light to go off. The first turn of the key elicits a feeble groan from the engine with hardly any revs showing. After turning the engine off and restarting second time the engine fires usually accompanied by a lot of smoke. The vehicle is going in this week to have investigation of a knocking noise on full lock at low speeds. I hope it isn't the stepper motor or transmission transfer gearbox. The transmission gearbox was replaced only a year ago under warranty. Will keep you all informed.

Turn out knocking noise on full lock was due to transfer box motor, duly replaced under warranty. There was also a sporadic fault with the auxiliary heater, causing the extra smoke on start up.
Booked car in for full 4 wheel alignment check, price £199.96
.
I thought I better get it checked before fitting new tyres on the vehicle. The first set of bridgestones lasted 9000 mls before they were changed under warranty along with the transmission transfer gearbox, due to uneven tyre wear. The second set have slightly better wear pattern, but still has 1mm less on outer edges compared with the middlel and inner edges for all four tyres. I'll probably change them next month before any winter snow comes. These tyres would have lasted 13000mls.

Would have thought if they acknowledged transfer box problem, they could have done alignment at same time free of charge
