Odd little quirk...
this is monochrome MFI unit in a base 2.5 TDI

i thought that the MFI unit had current journey info i,e average speed, time of journey and average consumption stc all refered to with a 1 symbol then press again and you can get the the figures marked with a 2 which i thfoght was from last time it was "re-set" so long term average speed, fuel consumption, time driven etc.

Well that seems to be the case all except for the average fuel consumption, both have exactly the same reading and re-set each trip i.e the one with a 1 and 2 marked by it but all other readings are definaitly since last set and current trip?

is this normal or a "bug" ? if "bug" gues need a dealer to upload new firmware (or should i just leave it alone as its not importnat and so far all else seems fine...)

Yep, definitely a bug. It can be fixed....but it took me about 6 months to get sorted. Maybe they have things sorted now.......but don't be surprised if it takes a while.

There is supposed to be a disk that can be used to cure the issue (I think Kaine managed to use this in the end on his - Shropshire Treg). They tried it on mine and all hell broke loose and Treg immobilised itself!! In the end they fitted a complete new readout and all was well. Have a look on http://www.clubTouareg too - search for MFD readout - and you will see a thread there with owners from Oz and Austria from memory...

Bottom line - yes its a bug and yes it can be fixed!!

Yep, as Chris indicated I did get mine fixed after waiting for 6 months. It was resolved by a software update issued in October '05 - Simon at VW Shrewsbury Service Dept knows about it as he sorted it for mine - if your dealer doesn't know, then ask them to call him for help.
Also, they need to run the update from a standalone pc (laptop) apparently as the system on the shop floor wont do it - again this was information given to me by Simon at VW Shrewsbury Service Dept.
