Jeez, this is driving me mad. Can anyone give me some advice as I've spent hours phoning around trying to find a local company to get some advice and hardware to bring my 06 v6 touareg up to using an iphone. I've had absolutely no joy from these 'experts' over and above what I could buy from Halfords!

Can anyone tell me:

1) What is model of the navradio unit in my '06 v6? I know its not a RNS510, but none of the in car systems fitters in my area can tell me and I cant find any referencephotos on any of the usual sites.
2) Is it possible to fit a RNS510 to my car and benefit from improved sat nav and perhaps bluetooth to get my iphone working hands free?
3) Is it difficult/possible to fit a 7 button (ie with phone buttons) steering wheel controller (Is it part 7L6959538E3X1 ?)- can we get these in the UK?
4) The only solution offered to me to get an iphone working is a parrot system but I've read on another touareg forum http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3120147 about using a "SW100C CANbus interface" - anyone any experience of this or even know of where we can get this in the UK?

Before I get flamed as there are lots of iPhone posts here already, but of them seem to provide any kind of integrated solution. I don't want loads of stick-on solutions all over my lovely Touareg interior!!

Help anyone??

Cheers

I am in the same boat.

Why can you fit a bog standard nokia phone and not an Iphone??
Maybe we should try to make an app for the iphone that allows you to bluetooth it to anything......

I have been looking for solutions and the only thing I can come up with to fit easily without taking the car apart is a ?35 quid sunviser bluetooth thing from o2.

I have also been through the search section and gone round in circles.
Watching this one with interest.

1. Your unit is problably the MFD2 which preceded the RNS 510. Have a read here: http://vwnavi.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=59

2. Yes - the RNS 510 should be a straight swop with your existing unit. Plenty for sale on eBay, just make sure you buy from a reputable seller and insist on it being a brand new sealed unit. Don't take anything that has had the seals broken. Mega-expensive from a VW dealer ! You may also need an additional lead to update your CanBus. Again check RNS 510 site above.

3. Yes you should be able to swop out the existing steering wheel switch and replace with the telephone controls switch. About ?140 from a dealer I seem to recall. You will need to recode with VODS. Have a read here: http://www.mytreg.com/forums/showthread.php?5725-New-Bluetooth&highlight=bluetooth

4. AFAIK, the SW100C interfaces with some Parrot kits (CK3000 Evolution from memory) however you do not get full functionality with the VW steering wheel control buttons, nor do you get any unit display function (head unit and MFD computer). You may in fact need the updated SW101 kit - you would need to check with the supplier, I think you can get it from the US, not sure of any UK supplier - link here: http://www.parrotkits.com/steeringwheel.html.
Parrot also now do their own interface for VW cars with the same limitations - it's on their website, link here: http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/hands-free-car-kits

Not sure you can get an iPhone working with any OEM or factory type fitting such as Fiscon. Been discussed here previously: http://www.mytreg.com/forums/showth...ith-factory-bluetooth-kit&highlight=bluetooth

Plenty of further information on this forum - have a search on Bluetooth or a look in the Electronics section : )

1. MFD2

2. Yes - simple plug and play swop but you may need a n updated CanBus lead. Lots for sale on eBay but make sure you only buy a new/sealed unit from a reputable seller.

3. Yes, you can buy the telephone control steering wheel switch from VW - about ?140 I seem to recall ! Forum link here: http://www.mytreg.com/forums/showthread.php?5725-New-Bluetooth&highlight=bluetooth

4. Parrot kits for sale from the US - don't know of any UK supplier, so you need to ad VAT and delivery costs. Link here:
Parrot also do their own lead/kit but neither gives you full steering wheel functionality or Nav Unit/MFD display of call/address book info. Parrot link here: http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/hands-free-car-kits

Not sure that the iPhone will work with any OEM/Fiscon type unit, but these units are completely functional with the car, giving touchscreen control and MFD dash display as well.

Yes simple plug and play swop for the RNS 510 unit but you may need an updated canBus lead adapter. Try eBay and look for a reputable seller and don't buy any unit that is used or has broken seals. Don't think that the iPhone is compatable with any VW factory unit though.

3) Is it difficult/possible to fit a 7 button (ie with phone buttons) steering wheel controller (Is it part 7L6959538E3X1 ?)- can we get these in the UK?

You can buy the OEM VW steering wheel telephone controller switch from any VW dealer - about ?140 I seem to recall. You will needs VODS to recode. Been discussed here - search Bluetooth and look for post from Cas - single 's', not me : )

US supplied - here: http://www.parrotkits.com/steeringwheel.html - think you need the SW101. Remember to add shipping and VAT ! Parrot also do their own lead - link here: http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/hands-free-car-kits
Both Parrot options are aftermarket and of limited functionality. They do not fully integrate with the car's Sat Nav or MFD in dash displays. Dont' think any OEM VW or Fiscon unit will integrate with an iPhone though : (

Thanks Cass, that's a really useful reply. I'm going to give fitting a RNS 510 unit a shot I think. It wont solve my iphone connection blues but at least it should improve the sat nav and at least open up a bluetooth connection...

...hey its snowing up here in Cumbria again, time to play out again!

Cheers

I can confirm that the fiscon plus works just dandy with the iphone3g & 3gs with the rns510 - just had my parrot replaced with fiscon and I have to say it's the dogs... address book sync, last number redial and the phone book displays on both the rns510 and the dash screen information thingy.
