Hi Everyone I'm a forum follower but never posted before
I have 2004 V10 but recently had the fault running gear workshop error which when i used vag-com said
1 Fault Found:
00145 - Right Rear Dampening Adjustment Valve (M339)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit
Changed the batteries as per general advice in other posts as this error came on after flat battery and this didnt help and also checked the wiring at the valve in the air strut which seems ok .So I'm at a loss to explain why it still occurs as air suspension works fine and dampening adjusts correctly. One worry is i replaced both batteries with AGM types as per an online company the rear battery was a direct match but the the underseat battery is 95a and not 110a as per the old battery.
Ta for any advice before the dealers get involved

Hi Dazza,

The 'Running Gear workshop' fault message often appears erroneously after there has been disruption/interuption to the electricity supply from either of the batteries.
Try clearing the existing fault codes and see if they re-appear, if they do not - you can assume that all is well.

The under-seat battery provides power for everything except starting the engine.
Under-seat batteries are larger than the rear battery and most sites seem to assume they are the same - again, I would be inclined to run it as is and see if it copes with the load.

Cheers,
John.

Darryl,

I'm not much of an expert on Vag-com diagnostics - if it was my car I would clear all fault codes and start from scratch.

I can virtually guarantee you that if you take this problem to a VW dealership - they will just keep replacing components until the fault codes disappear!

The more possibilities you are able to eliminate at this stage, the better - do you know of any good independent VW specialists in your neck of the woods?

Cheers,
John.

Thanks for your advice John but unfortunately no change
How can a fault in circuit come on after flat battery ill never know
Found out the circuits other end is at the J197 control unit but scared to touch it as everything working - just the warning message and the connector looks complicated to get apart
Don't know if i should just live with it but it is annoying

Hi
This sometimes occurs as the fault code is retained in memory. I don't know if you have done many miles it often will go away after a good run as this seems to reset the controller.

hi bud i have a v10 and sometimes when i wash it well under the arches with the jet wash but after a run and on off starting the engine normally goes off but as the forum says the under seat battery is the most likely cause so try and see if its charging when running if thats posible.
cheers

Latest Update
Been to the dealer £50 to have a cursory look at the problem and say £200 to look any further and that might not lead to an answer
I might get the local electronic guru with a good reputation have a look as i dont think the dealer understands touaregs that well

Sorry for the indecent question. I have searched EVERYWHERE, including here, vwvortex, clubtouareg and google for answers to this VAG-COM fault. My air suspension is no longer working and the dampening seems to be set at the highest level causing a very harsh ride. I haven't taken anything apart yet but I was trying to gather as much background info as possible before diggin in.

I think I've figured this out, if anyone has the same issue. I studied the wiring schematic and determined that the 2 wires coming from the right rear air shock dampener go directly to the auto level control module right under the CD changer in the trunk (pins 120 and 121 I believe, white wire and grey wire). I Ohm'ed these 2 pins in the plug and had an open circuit, then I tested the other 3 shocks and got 2.4 ohms resistance so I knew something was up but I didn't know if it was in the wiring or the shock. Then I disconnected the plug at the shock and jumped the 2 pins together and ohm'ed again and still nothing, open circuit. Then I ohmed each wire independently from the module to the plug and grey was good but the white wire is open. I'm not sure where the wire is broken but it seems that I need to replace this harness. I'm also not sure if this is the exact harness replaced in the post above but for me I need to replace the wiring pigtail from the right rear shock to the level control module. This harness might also have the speed sensor plug for the right rear wheel but I'll wait to see what VW says.
