Hi,

I have a 54 plate 2.5tdi sport that is useually a great car.

On saturday i noticed that there is some kind of oil/fluid leaking from the bottom of the bib at the bottom of the wheel arch liner on the passanger side just below some kind of vent??
the fluid is Black and looks like used engine oil.
I cleaned it up on Saturday and have been out and about over the weekend with the fam and noticed that the stuff is back.
I will book it in at vw but just wanted to know if anyone has any ideas as i dont want the useual crazy bills.
I checked the engine oil and had look under the bonnet but there is no sign of leaks or drop in the levels?

only 25 had vdubs since i could drive love them but hate the hassle they bring

The forum looks good and some of you people really know your stuff.

I think it may be the air con unit (see the posts on package in engine bay). I often get a dark colour fluid coming from the air con unit in passenger side at the back of the engine.

Yep, sounds most likely. especially as the weather is getting a bit warmer. You say the liquid is black? Is it, or is it just making the tarmac blacker (wet)? What does the fluid feel like? Slippery like oil, or not so much - like water?

Hope its the latter. Welcome to the forum too.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback

My Treg is now in the local dealers for inspection. (wonder what they will find?)

I got one of the tech guys to come out and have a look at the problem before I left it with them.
He thinks its a seal on the intercooler pipe but you never know what they will find.

The stuff is jet black like used engine oil but non has even dripped on the ground yet

Hi,

Had to take my car in again for the oil leak as the last fix didnt cure the problem.
They think its coming from the rocker cover and wanted ?250 to replace it as the gasket is is part of the complete rocker?
but they recomended that i just leave it as it wouldnt cause a problem as its only leaking a tiny bit of oil.

got the car home and the next morning the airbag warning light came on so had to have a piece of the loom replaced in the steering collum. they wanted ?300 but got them down to ?220 but still think it was a con as the part only cost ?19

Oh dear
. I presume your car's out of warranty. You should have a look at an independent vw garage. The only problem is finding a good one, who also has a heavy duty hydraulic lift for our heavy beastie.

I had an oil leak on a 3.0TDI. I noticed a small puddle of oil on my garage floor- looked underneath and saw a large amount of oil on the exhaust and dripping from the plastic under tray. My local dealer had the car for 2 days and changed a seal on one of the rocker covers (luckily under warranty) but this did not cure the leak as there was oil on the floor the very next day- in the end it turned out to be a leak on the sump-tray. All fixed now.

Good luck with yours.
