Oil level after service

Just checking the general consensus... I picked up my Touareg yesterday after a service and the oil level indicated was rather low, is this acceptable? I would of thought it should be filled to the max level to allow for some usage to the next service?

If its drained and refilled the specified amount it should be full to the max level. Looks like someone is trying to save a little on oil cost during the service :) I would also not trust the oil they claim to have used or trust anything else they have done if they don't refill it properly This sort of thing is why I do the service myself

cheers

I'm heading back to the garage on my way home for a top-up... looks like they were trying to save some money on a fixed cost service.

Had the same thing happen to me last service. Went back, they said it had been filled correctly. Wasn’t happy, but the difference between max and where the level showed wouldn’t have been much volume. I’ve done around 4k since and it’s not moved.
Dunno about the T4 but T5 the correct level is in the middle of the scale, or two marks above or below middle is still an acceptable level. Each graduation on the scale is something like 1/8 of a litre

FWIW - I had a an oil change a few months ago by VW main dealer (under service plan). The oil level was at Max when I got the vehicle back.

Mine too - always the same at every service since I’ve owned the car (2013 - 9 services) 👍
When I did mine the book says 7.7 litres. So I put 7.7 litres in. It came to the max level.
I suspect my dealer did the same(shorted oil amount) thing and on a long trip I got a low oil warning, Stopped and added 1/2 quart and it didn't come up again. I was only 5000 mi from oil change time. I hate not having a dip stick.
VW are the dipsticks here!
AMEN, God forbid owners should be able to check things themselves without a computer.

Also dislike being able to see the clear new oil on a dipstick , how do we know they’ve actually done it?!
Happened on mine, VW Indi told me it doesn’t have to sit on the Max level.
The difference from the half way point to max is less than 500ml, try it.

mine took 300ml to a little below max.
So why not put in the correct amount if its so little? Maybe because over ten cars its $80 in your pocket rather than the car owners your servicing ? Servicing 10 cars a day then its $500 a week or $25000 a year ... worthwhile ?
Oil was left at mid-point on my last service at VW main dealer that I have used for last 7 years. Had said I was thinking of changing soon, and thought they may have been trying to minimise cost. Service price was reasonable so let it slide. Easy to top up if needed, but I've never really consumed oil in my 90k miles from new.
If VW main dealers are that bothered about saving £ on a few ML of oil, it speaks volumes about their standards! I get it - it adds up if you are doing lots of services, but hey - we are paying for it done properly!!

If they are skimping on oil, WTF else are they skimping on?!?

What annoyed me, is I’ve used the dealer for the past 8 years. Previously on a Tiguan health check they said I needed a top up of oil, not covered on the service plan. Duly paid for a litre which they used for this, and gave me the newly purchased bottle which had around 20 ml used for the job! Obviously 20 ml matters when they want to boost sales, but doesn’t matter when they’re light on an oil service and the gauge is not on maximum.
It seems to me that the worst part of owning a VW is customer experiences of main dealers. VW literally have zero control over the actions of their dealer network, which is a joke, but prob not isolated to just VW.

I am still yet to find a competent, diligent, reliable and professional VW dealer.

IMHO, they all suck, just to varying extents.

BMW and Merc on the other hand have been very very good IMHO.

VW could learn a lot from them, but they literally give zero fucks. Shame. Pretty good products, sold and maintained by cowboys.

Well I can’t really fault the service I’ve received over the years, this is just a niggle really. The car doesn’t use oil so I’m quite chilled.
Strange what you say about BMW and Mercedes, friends locally say there experiences of these are terrible , and you’re paying stupid money for the privilege.
Main thing is I’ve had no issues in the 2 yr of ownership , and still smile everyday I get in it.
