Hi All,

Had to book the Treg in for its first service and some other work this week. After much deliberation, decided to make the journey across to Nottingham, West Bridgford and I have to say what a pleasant experience it was.

Met with Nigel Saxby - lovely chap, looked after everything and kept me well informed on progress - even had a good old chinwag about cars - very relaxed and straight forward experience.

Richard Bagshaw (their chief Tech) looked after all the issues and the car was returned in the same pristine state it was left in - many thanks Richard.

It's another
for the team at Nottingham

About to leave for a weekend trip to Cambridge, I was checking the levels on the Treg when I found there was no oil showing on the dipstick :help: and double :help: - especially worrying as I hadn't really used the car since its service a few weeks ago.

There was no leak apparent, no billowing blue smoke or oil in the water symptoms, so I called Notts VW and spoke with Nigel and Robert, who seemed equally baffled by the low oil/lack of leak etc but advised I try a litre or two of oil in her just to see....fine I said, seems a bit odd to me but I have some Longlife III in the garage (supplied by another non-Touareg dealer).

Thank goodness Robert pointed out that the 2.5 & V10 TDi MUST use Long Life II (VW 506 01 spec)!! or serious engine damage will occur as the camshaft gear-train (rear of engine) needs the correct lubricant.....and LL III isn't it!!

The following morning I'm off down to my local (but non-Touareg dealer) to buy 3 litres of LL II. The chap in the parts department was pleasant but adamant that LL III was perfectly acceptable....another call to Robert (thank you for your patience) and he reiterated the need for LL II or it would be curtains for the engine.

Anyway, long-story-long, 1.5 litres of Long Life II later, panic over and I'm on my way. The Treg hasn't used any oil on the journey (so I'll just keep an eye) but OMG what could have happened if I'd simply used the oil supplied by a non-specialist dealer
....loud metallic graunching, shredding, blown engine methinks :help:

Final chapter on the low oil story (I hope): Today I received a courtesy call from Nigel Saxby to check everything went O.K - now that's customer service
Many thanks to Nigel and Robert for their excellent support!!

Well it's another
for this dealership.

Just got the car back from having some bits attended to - drivers' door speaker (buzzing), inner door handle (peeling) and wheel trims (poor fit) - all sorted under warranty.

Once again, good service and a friendly response - I can highly recommend!!

Best wishes to Nigel and all the team at Nottingham - hope you have a very merry Christmas

Interesting point, that has come up before. It is best to take out the dipstick for a few minutes to let the oil fill the reservoir at the bottom even if the car has been standing for some time. It is quite normal to withdraw the dipstick and have no oil showing so don't panic leave for a few minutes and all will be revealed.

Thanks again to all at Nottingham VW: The Treg's now had it's first MOT - no problems (though I didn't expect any to be honest) plus a new battery (lack of use/lack of a trickle charger - my own fault).

Although I live an hour and a half away from Nottingham I wouldn't entrust the Treg to anyone else - friendly, knowledgeable staff and excellent service - highly recommended.
