After looking around i bought a MAR 2005 2.5 TDI on 2nd March, had some bits done to it and was supposed to collect on 17th from Ridgeway Volkswagen in Reading. (3.0 TDI V6 is a lot more S/H and out my budget...)
Salesman rang on 15th Air Bag fault needed new control unit

After speaking with them on the Friday it would be a few days, then on the Tuesday 21st part was in transit so should be a day or two longer...

Well...today is the 24th no sign of part - it transpires that it is on back order, out of stock in Germany

The Salesman is away so they have had one of the ladies their call me daily to keep me updated, (whilst being the perfect gent on the phone of course) i calmly pointed out that unless they produced said vehicle on Monday working correctly i would hold them in breach of contract and would be claiming deposit and compensation for the work i have had done to the Car (Window Tints, Phone fitted and towbar) also pointed out that this was not the service that i had understood the Luxury Volkswagen Car division was supposed to offer its customers...must admit had become quite despondent about the whole affair, after all i browse quickly through the forum everyday and have to read about you lot enjoying your Tregs...

1 hour later...

we have a loan Touareg for you to collect any time you like Sir and the part we are told will be with us on or around the 30th.

Well THAT is the service i expect - well done Ridgeway.

Glad to hear it; I had terrible service from Ridgeway with my first Touareg, hence now go 35 miles out of my way to visit Motorworld in Oxford.

Will be a benefit to everyone if they are finally getting their act together (three years after starting to sell Touaregs...).

Have to admit that when I had my little petrol in diesel tank problem last weekend they sorted it as soon as the treg was delivered to them mid Sat afternoon and was ready at 7pm. Was quite impressed. They had 2 treg engineers with a gap in the diary for anything else to do, so were glad of some business

So far the communication has improved and i cant fault them presently.....

an extract of the current situation:

LATEST NEWS...

This came direct from VW Head Office 5 minutes ago, The part will
'definately' (her words) be here tuesday / wednesday of next week, obviously
we will fit it the moment it comes in, all being well our side.

Again, thankyou for your patience,

so nearly now 1 month since the bottom line was signed...but
as i have a very nice loan Treg im not too bothered but someday would like to get my own one......

I too have had the grave misfortune to deal with Ridgeway Reading and to be honest if I can possibly avoid ever crossing their threshold again I will.

Mine had its first service a few weeks ago at Newbury and was a good 10% or more cheaper than Reading and their valet service is second to none.

all of the staff were very helpful. polite and genuinely interested in providing good service. I cannot wait until they are fully authorised to look after Touaregs.

For me the choice between Reading and Newbury is a choice, as the distance to them from where i live is the same and driving to Reading on any day can be a real bugger, I recommend any other locals give Reading a miss and head to Newbury!!

So far so good.

Last night Ridgeway Reading delivered my Car to me at home and took away the loaner.

The Car arrived in immaculate condition, when the Salesman said he would arrive and repaired.

My loan car was a 55 plate with 7K on the clock and all the toys im not sure of exact spec but Sat Nav, TV, 18" wheels, Rear DVD, electric seats, privacy glass, parking etc

The car i have is a 05 plate base 2.5 with 10K on it.

There is such a hugh difference between the Cars they could almost be different models, the 55 plate crashes over potholes etc on Hampshire back roads, and thumps on Gear Changes and the engine sounds harsh, the 05 is sweet quieter with no thumping and gear change is also seemlessly smooth, the 05 has just been serviced so i wonder if as others have written it has loosened up ... i had done over 500 miles in the loaner in 9 days is their really a big difference between different Cars?

Anyway they seem to have done a good job time will tell.....

Have to say that my own car always seems to be smoother than the loan vehicles which are always newer, mine is also an 05... I thought maybe its just a comfort zone thing, but the last loaner we had the wife drove and she said exactly the same thing.... which is very odd, cos she's not really interested in cars.... its more a case of get in, start and go... beyond that she never really notices anything...
