Clearly a bit of a hot topic, my other car - Volvo S60 T5 - has a really great TMC service from the Navtec DVD. Works on all roads give really good advance warnings and has saved me loads of time in the past. If only my Treg would work half as well! oh well I guess life cant be perfect. At the end of the day its a little price to pay considering how good the rest of the car is.

Only other comment is that why oh why do the dealers not just front up and say it does not work in the first place? It would not have stopped me buying the car but now just irritates me that the buttons are there but I cant use it......

TMC is the one subject gets a lot of people steamed up including me. For a start it does work and it is available the problem revolves around who is responsible for it being available on particular vehicles. I am of the view that in many cases sales and some manufacturers are guilty of misrepresentation. How, by inferring that is available it is but not in the UK, this is true on the latest DVD's. In the case of Europe it is a pan European agreement by the relevant parties to supply in the UK we were not a party to the agreement.

I would also contend there is also a contingent implication by the manufacturers who are supplying the disks for not including the ITIS codes on the disks supplied although I believe it is the manufacturers that have the final say at some cost. For example in the case of the earlier CD systems it was around a year before they could be purchased independently with the licence included in the price of the CD.

It does seem curious that systems say from Alpine provide TMC down to A roads and in some cases B roads.
It does call into question whether the inclusion of some manufacturer sat/nav is value for money when far better systems are available than the OEM variety.
