Day before christmas eve and the old girl decides to put her parts on.

"System Fault - Workshop" comes up in the MFD along with the 4wd symbol in the bottom left part of the screen. Also she's in limp home mode... quarter throttle. Tried disconnecting the battery as a re-set but no luck (incientally is there an easier ay of getting to the battery other than from the rear of the passenger seat - i.e. how do you get the seat base off?)

Spoke to VW. taking it in christmas eve!

Anybody with similar experience?

cant help with this but some advice i would give to anyone is get a vag.com cable.
I paid around ?230ish for a hex-can-usb cable about a year ago which covers pretty much any modern vag car. I can say although expensive, for all the times ive used it on my touareg, leon and on friends cars i'd have saved money over visiting the dealer. All of the times ive needed it has been for failed sensors etc which are easily replaced.

For me its as essential as a set of tools.

When I saw the title I thought this thread was about V-i-a-g-r-a!

[Had tp put the dashes in otherwise the V word just comes up [pun unintended] as a " * "!!

No problems in that department old boy! Us younger treg owners are still able to
when required.

Back to the Touareg. Christmas eve in the VW garage. They had it for a couple of hours but can't fix it. Need a bit more time so gave me a Golf GTi and said they will ring me on the 29th.

Has to be said, I was expecting the worst from some of the threads about customer service, but I was treated fairly well (on a par with audi - apart from I had to make my own tea) Courtesy car is okay. Not going anywhere so... Didn't get the insurance waiver bit about the excess... they put a line through it on the form and said I was on VW insurance...don't know if that's any different?

At least it looks like they are at work again between Christmas the New Year.

A few years ago, my local SAAB dealer used to shut from Christmas Eve [well, noon actually and not eve!] until 2nd January so if your car broke . . . tough!

Well, following a phone call yesterday from them, that is effectively what they have done! The Treg technician isn't back til friday 2nd Jan and the other herbs their can't diagnose the problem. So there it will stay until Friday...and the chances of it getting fixed in one day I would say are slim.

It is times like this that the faith is tested...

Bummer!

I'd really like this country to go back to the good old days.

You might be let off a bit early on Christmas Eve but otherwise you were back at work on December 27th [weekends permitting] and there was none of this nonsense of a holiday on January 1 with everyone extending their holidays in between - I know some people who have taken 12 days leave to get 3 weeks off this year. Why? Even the weather's cr*p! And who wants to spend time with in-laws [mine are dead!!]?

Bah, humbug!!!

Mr Buzzard,

I haven't the faintest idea what you are talking about? Are you familiar with the Queen's English?

Transfer box ECU apparently, if that makes any sense. I'm suprised the Transfer box has an ECU.

?1250 if it was outside the warranty. Gone are the days when you got something for your money...

Excellent post Mr. Buzzard, you'll fit in here nicely....

Not to teach you to suck eggs, but Vag-com info can be found here...
http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/touareg.html

Not too many treggers on here have ventured down the tinkering with the mother board stuff, most have bought from new so sh1te scared to tamper, and affect the warranty....

Paul,

Thank you for your detailed explanation. Obviously I grasped most of it!!

It was the reference to "Needs to be a sticky" that had me... I was surmising that you may be one of these biking track day chaps and was indicating your desired choice of tyre compound as a way of affiliating with other likewise individuals.

Obviously I am well out of touch with "Forum Jive"

Mark.

Hi Mark.

My only bike experience comes in the form of a mountain bike....with no motor attached.

I gathered you were in the know really.

I notice you are an Audi to VW convert and when I ''go treg'' I will be the same.
You have saved me the job of going the A4 Audi route(If you now have Treg after A4 it must be a good machine)
so thanks for that.

Anyway--
BOT (Back On Topic)............ Hows the ECU problem coming along.
