Jacking whole front end safely onto axle stands

Hi there, checked around but can't seem to find a clear answer.. I would like to lift the whole front end in one go so I can then slide both axle stands under the side jacking points as marked by the owners manual. And to avoid any damage in the process of course. I have a new 3T trolley jack on the way and a level solid surface! What is the best and safest procedure for a R5 7L? Many thanks.

I have just done it on my T1 V6 3.0 TDI, big rubber pad on my 2T under the front crossmember and both wheels off the ground. Axle stands under the rear mounting bushes. Stood fine for days while I buggered about under the arches. Same in reverse on the way down. Done it dozen times on this machine all fine. (y)

Thanks, so presumably you need to get under car before jacking to remove the plastic tray so you can see said crossmember?

Oh and why under mounting bushes rather than the marked jacking points on the sills?

Guess so but that was missing from mine when I bought it, not found a good reason to replace it especially as i'm jacking it up quite a lot. For most of the things you do under there it has to come off anyway

Personal preference and bitter experience. My axle stands do not have a wide jacking pad on top of them so I prefer to put them on sronger metal. Many cars have separate jacking points to supporting points even from the factory. I also work on older stuff where the jacking opints have been abused or rusted so I prefer a bit of thicker suspension metal when I am grubbing about under them!

Thanks, ended up jacking one side at a time today, but would like to have a go at lifting while front at some point.. only problem doing at side is that it's pretty tight trying to get axle stand under the mounting nut when using the standard jacking point behind the front wheel.
