Hi all,

My 2009 Touareg Altitude (v10) has gained an intermittent quiet / low hummmm buzzing sound through the passenger front door speaker. Initially i thought it was wind noise but during a 7hr drive yesterday its definitely coming through the speaker. For first 2hrs of the journey it was not there. All was good. Then for next 2hr it appeared constantly and then totally disappeared only to come back right at the end of the journey. Today it is not there. I tried switching through various electric bits/pieces, turned off my phone etc. Nothing changed or had an effect to stop it.

Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

Cheers
James

Could be one of two things - the more simple (hopefully...) will be a short somewhere on the cable that feeds the speaker where the insulation has gone between the cores. Best place to check would be where the cable goes through the hinge into the frame.

2nd might be RF interference. Have you installed anything recently that doesn't have a suppressor on it? Dashcam maybe? A suppressor looks like a small plastic looking clamp that you run the power supply cable through if you've not come across them before.

Thanks for the feedback… only had the vehicle 3weeks. As far as I can see everything is standard electrical wise. Even the tow bar is factory fit from delivery. I did spot a random microphone handing loose from behind the rear view mirror. But there is no “new” phone fittings I can see other than the old school integrated one.

i will check the speaker wiring route at the weekend 👍

If you’ve had it for only 3 weeks and you got a warranty on it then take it back and let the seller deal. Tracing this sort of problem can be an absolute nightmare

Had the head unit out and traced back all wires to the door. All seems fine. Contacted VW to see if any software updates were due on my vehicle and they said no. All up to date. It only happens after an hour of driving when everything is fully hot / warm. I did OBD scan and noted this on the info - could this be my problem:

0877 [0x036D]
Tweeter, rear right-R16
Status: Pending fault present, Pending fault present during this driving cycle, Test is inhibited by other DTC, Validated and stored in non volatile memory
