Hi all, picked my Touareg last Tuesday after trading my my Skoda Yeti. Wanted a bigger car with more luxury and of course 4x4.
Got the usual problem rear fog light not working so back to the trader to hopefully get them to fix it.

Why do you need the fog light fixed?
You've got a bloody great lighthouse at the back!

I had a failed fog light on mine - If it's not working then it will likely need replacing, think the part was about £350. Not sure what the labor cost was as. Mine was covered under warranty. You are covered by the Consumer Rights Act. Link below (hopefully you wont need to read it to the dealer!) -

Why would you do it yourself?

There was a guy on here a while ago who bought a used Treg, he had an issue with the MMI which he tried to fix himself (unnecessarily) and he went on to break stuff... Now he's looking for a Nav switch, which you cannot buy separately to the RNS850.

You will be liable if you cause any damage and if there are other reasons why the light cluster has failed, how will you deal with that? For all you know, it had a bump and there is more in play that just replacing the light cluster....

DIY work on a recently purchased vehicle is more of liability than a benefit IMHO.

Let the dealer sort it mate, why do em a favour and open yourself up to more problems?

A new rear light cluster is not £60 BTW. Are you fitting used parts on behalf of the dealer, that were also supplied by the dealer???? I wouldn't accept that if it were my Treg!

I think you made the right call there mate. Was not knocking you, your DIY ability or your willingness, just mindful that these things can be a can of worms and wouldn't want to hear of you coming a cropper.

Considering it's new to you, have you done -

a) gear box reset
b) sorted out your music on SD card
c) got a service care plan from VW (prob mixed opinion on here, but FWIW I've had a good experience)
d) checked every button, switch, system is working?

If your Treg has to go back for some TLC, might be an idea to double check that nothing else needs a bit of love too!

That's fine.

Done gear box reset,
Have USB stick in the center console connected.
Service plan is a local VW specialist so just pay as I go.
Everything else is OK, still learning all the tips and tricks.

It may not apply outside mainland UK, but VW regularly offers 2-year service plans with one minor, one major service, at 25% discount - given the cost of oil needed it's difficult for independents to get under that price - downside is you have to use a VW dealer!

I will double check our local independent.
Unfortunately we only have a so called car supermarket here that's services a few different makes and had a few horror stories about them.
Thanks for the information regarding service plans.

My service plan is about £20 per month - It was a two year deal.

VW dealers are tragically shit, as @Black Grouse says; this is the worst part of a service care plan with VW.

In fact the worst part about VW ownership is the dealers.
