Hi - Sorry to jump on the thread but have been looking at Tregs around 2010 to 2013 too so its interesting reading. Especially as I know nothing about these cars tbh.

One thing I see is that a lot of the older ones have the fake walnut type of inserts in the doors and dash etc which I am not keen on. Can these be removed and wrapped easily or is that a big job?

cheers

Mark
Easier to simply buy a car without the wood effect. Trim can be removed and wrapped or dipped though.

Have a look through the older brochures to see the standard and optional spec of cars and that will help focus your search 👍

Wrapping in situ aside from the two small sections either side of the steering column is not so difficult. For a pro, easy i'd have thought. (TomTom long since removed)

Agree, used prices had stopped going down for the much older 2000-2010 vehicles. Anything after 2010 appears to have risen slightly. For example I sold my 2017 Touareg R-Line with 20k miles in 2019 for £29k. 3yrs later it looks like I’d have to pay the same price now to buy it back but with a lot higher mileage.

Here it is while the add is still up:

Some small negotiations on price but it’s also being delivered to Aberdeenshire from as far south as I could find 🤣.
Seller has been absolutely fantastic in communication, throughout the last 2 weeks. For its age it’s got 1 previous owner, full history & underside looks immaculate. Engine was out 2yrs ago to do all the big things and both Garret chargers were replaced too.
I’m putting a good £4-£5k contingency budget aside for it. And my local garage specialist who is a VAG guru (used him for last 10yrs) is happy to work on it if anything goes wrong.

It will go well alongside my Lotus Exige V6. It replaces our 69 plate Ford Ranger Wildtrack. Time to go back in time!

Key thing for you is being 1,000% certain it's got VW506.01 in the sump. Any doubt, then change the oil and filter immediately

Totally agree, upon delivery it’s going straight to my VAG guru for an oil change even though it’s had a recent change.

Even dealers get the oil spec wrong for early V10s. Don't assume that even your guru knows!

No assumptions are needed, we talk details and specifications of things all the time when working on cars. He’s meticulous in his approach. Ultimately it’s upto me to ask what I want done as a customer. And for him to advise & do based on his 20+ yrs of experience. 👍

on another topic, no responses to my other request what to do. Any knowledge of double din head units that use apple car play and how to keep the steering buttons operative.

i found this one looks good but need the surround fixings and electrics to covert steering controls

Best of luck with it and I echo the advice from NoobyT

Best to start from where you know, with a new to you vehicle and well done in having a trusted spanner twirler

I seem to recall that early Tregs had Can-Bus 1.6 and needed a conversion to Can-Bus 2.0 to ensure that newer/later units would work and maintain functionality.

There was a company that used to sell the relevant leads but they seem to no longer be in business. You might need to research this 🤔

My car gets delivered tomorrow so I’m excited 😆. The garage selling said they had to replace both batteries as one failed it’s test and the other not performing good either. In theory that’s good news. 👍

Your homework tonight is to read SSP298.

There are lots of Self Study Programs on the Touareg.

SSP298 is on the electrics wherein you will learn that on a V10 the rear battery starts the car whilst the front under passenger seat battery assists and supplies consumer items.

In the event the rear battery isn't up to the job the front battery does the starting through some wizard eletrickery by you turning the ignition key the wrong way.
