This has come on for the 2nd time ( other was a month ago )
Car is a 53 plate V6 petrol, anything I should be looking out for when it goes to the dealers in the morning - last time they just turned the light off and said nothing was wrong, but I wouldnt trust them at all ( Priory Park VW in Hull, possibly the worst customer services of any garage I've ever dealt with... )

Cheers,

Pete.

Do you still have the manuals to refer to? Is it the picture of the engine that shows? Could be faulty switch/component as opposed to something with the engine.

You could try another dealer for a 2nd opinion.

I had this a while back.

turned out to be a Temparature Sensor somewhere in the engine.

The light actually went out before VW managed to replace it, but they still replaced whatever needed replacing under warranty.

I had this also a while back also. It was something to do with a switch or a breather pipe from a residue resevoir, if my head clears I will update this post, or maybe someone can make sense of my ramblings......

Hi, I had the same warning light, and the problem was a faulty sensor on the evaporation canister (this part is supposed to collect the petrol that evaporates from the tank, rather than vent to the atmoshpere, and then re-use it when fuel management system requires it. Before the dealer found the faulty sensor they first had replaced the evaporation canister, when questioned if that part had been OK, the reply was it also needed replacing, what a surprise!! I think the canister was about ?180 and the sensor ?60. I hope this helps.

If you are still covered by VW assist call them out and say you are afraid to drive in case of damage.
Probably nothing. I recently had system failure and problem was caused by a run down 2nd battery under the passenger seat. This seems to cause many electronic problems. VW assist guys superb.

Monty,

That was exactly the problem I had. Initially there was no problem found as light had gone off by the time I had got to dealer but on second visit it was diagnosed as the same sensor as your post above. However, I would never have written as good a technical explanation as you, even if I could have remebered the detail.

Just got mine back, cannister needs replacing, warranty job.
Coot i don't want to put your hopes down or paint a dark picture about your dealer, but the ACF/evaporation solinoid is known for sticking and going faulty.

I believe they would have replaced the canister and the solinoid at the same time, that way they covered both.
