Engine Auxiliary Water Pump replacement

Hello everyone,

New joiner here and my first post.
Well, am a proud owner of 2012 Treg with 3.6L V6 FSI engine. Recently when insurance conducted an inspection for renewing insurance, I was informed that there is little coolant leak from the secondary water pump or the Auxiliary Water Pump. I had not notice any leaks on my parking place since I changed the main water pump. I haven't topped up the coolant either to justify the leaks however when I removed the undertray, I did noticed very little drops that seems to come from the back of the engine it is squeezed
Even though the leaks are very very minor, I still want to address it. Can someone help find out and links if the replacement can be a DIY?
My worry is that if it is a complex task that involves dropping the engine, that would imply heavy labor involved.
Can the small leak affect the cooling of the engine?

Hi there,

Quite a common 5 yearly or so recurring problem. Mostly CEL on as pump fails. This pump helps in 2 ways. During cooldown of engine (after shutdown), it circulates the coolant to ensure no hotspots. At times the fan stays on to help with radiating the heat. Secondly, for cold climates, the REST button in car can be activated to keep cabin warm while engine is off. The pump helps to circulate the remaining heat in coolant.

Its not entirely difficult to change pump yourself, have a look at the thread below, incl the links I posted on the latest post I did. Needs a set of small hands, and some convoluted maneuvering of your yoga fit body.....feel free to post again if you hit any hiccups.
