I have a 3.0tdi sport and the wife has kerbed one of the tyres( Toyo Proxes) which now has large lump sticking out of the side wall. The tyres have only covered 4000 miles and have plenty of tread so i am reluctant to throw the other 3 away. My question is to anbody who knows do i have to change all 4 tyres or will i get away with the one as it has only around 25% wear. I have heard horror stories that odd size tyres can cause all sorts of problems with the running gear ( diffs and transmission) so some frendly advice would be appreciated.

You need to actually measure the tread that's left - that's the key number: the difference between the new tyre tread depth and the existing one. Once you know that come back and look on here - there's plenty about the subject.

Main thing as I recal is there should be less than 3mm difference in tread depth front to back to prevent transmission wind up, don't know if that applies side to side??
