I?ve got a 05 plate tdi with the single pinned bremo system, (42k, first set were fitted by the dealer at 24k ish) I?m looking to change the front and rear pads myself, I?m guessing I don?t need any special tools? In light of the handbrake being shoes. But I have it in my head that you need to plug in to the VAG system to retracted the pistons?
(warning lights not yet on)

There is no requirement to do anything with VAG COM, when replacing pads.

The principle of retracting the pistons in the caliper will be exactly the same with the Brembo brakes, although the pad retaining clips will be different.
A G clamp is useful to retract the pistons in the calipers.

On some cars (but not the treg) the rear pistons need to be rotated as they are retracted due to the handbrake operating through the caliper.
