Right, I feel motivated by Kaine's thread on his first attempt at detailing.

Firstly what is the difference between a good wash and polish and "detailing"?

Even when I have polished mine, I cant get that deep glass like shine. What products do i need (without stocking the whole of Halfords), and where do i get them from?

Oh and what the devil is a clay bar and why would I want to rub one on my car.

Scottie, you seem to have some knowledge of this, can you help?

Many thanks.

(I'm just going to see where i can get some elbow grease from).

To me detailing is about repairing mini paint scratches and marks and then reapplying protection.

The Clay Bar basically removes all tar/dirt from the paint work - it is amazing stuff

Once I'd clayed, paint cleaned, polished and waxed the body work felt like silk - far better than the normal polish/wax I used to do

Go for it!!!

Some great products made by a company called Gtechniq. A cool guy call Rob Earl is the UK distributor so if you want some stuff speak to him. I recommend products called G1 glass treatment, C4 wheel armour, P1 paint polish to remove micro swirls, Smart carnauba finishing spray.

Always wash the car using the two bucket method
Never use a chamoi leather, use a proper drying towel instead
Never use a sponge on any of your car, use a wool wash mit instead.

This will reduce further damage to your paint cause by grit and dirt particles stuck to the chamoi/sponge.

Wow, did most of that when the treg was new. But I'm not sure the missus will be too happy with me spending 2 days on the treg. Her response would be lots of household chores could be done in 2 days. I suppose the answer is to stay single or get the missus to do the treg.
