Having just become a V10 owner can only say what an amazing car but !!!!!! firstly no climate control Peter cooper in Portsmouth declare after 2 days cannot fix it go to another dealer !! Sidlow Crawley book it in magical day arrives " Sorry our mechanic is off sick take it away" To be fair they have tried hard and then collected my car and gave me a new 2.5 Toureg to use. New compressor fitted took three weeks as engine has to come out then before I get it back the turbos have now conked out so that has to be done VW prestige customer service an absolute joke the champions of buck passing.
My car has done 22000 miles has had its first service and is 20 months old.
So still without car but now my loan car is dumping oil on the driveway. To be fair it has done 1200 miles. Am I just unlucky or is the Touareg a disaster area because my experience with two of them has been extremely unpleasant.

Hello and welcome, clearly not good start for your Treg experience. I think as has been said before all depends on the dealer and the technicians you get. A call to Lux cars may be in order 0800 032 2278 and complain. I had recent visit to VW in Germany and had chat to the Director of quality control and said the general standard of diagnosis and repair in general was at best poor in the UK. He and the MD said they understood the problem but unfortunately it was up to the dealers to get the techies on courses. I pointed out that even the support to the dealers by VW GB was not good. They are certainly aware of the problems but VW GB needs to get its act together but again they do not have the mind set for the market they are in, the dealers that is. I hope you get get things worked out.

Sorry to hear of your problems with your V10 and loaner R5. Ive probably got one of the oldest V10,s around. Its now covered 240000 kms and was an ex spanish press car. Apart from a few sensors going down the car is still performing like new, with no serious oil leaks. Interior trim needs changing but we picked up a rolled V10 in france 2 wks ago and will canabalise it. It seems to me reading the posts on here that a great many of the dealers do not invest in training for the techies or is there another reason for the lack of product knowledge availiable at the dealers (in the UK ) ??

It does help to restore my confidence that one has lasted so long. I certainly do not blame the dealer Sidlow I feel VW has let them down all VW want to do is blame the dealer rather than sort the problem, a strange way of building customer confidence.

My V10 is June 03, ive owned it for a year 14k miles when I got it, now has 45k. During the last year it has had two sets of tyres (one paid for by VW) after 4 wheel alighnment, transfer box, stepper motor, ECU upgrade etc. Had complete electrical blackout (man from VW assist said it was all the wireless networks in the area) drivers door window motor replaced, used excessive oil and started blowing smoke in the mornings, replaced both turbos (didnt replace all the trim under the bonnet) two weeks later prop shaft and bearings went bang on the motorway (I asked VW assist to send a recovery, just sent a mechanic in a van. He was good though, apologised and i left the car with him to wait for the recovery while i went off in another car) Only current faults are wind noise from drivers door seal and the self autolock will not stay on.

I love the car, it is a great everyday car, plenty of power and comfort for cruising long distance and it performs well off road. shame it is so unreliable. My recomendation is if you by a used one, make sure you get an extended warranty in the deal as I did.

With regard to the dealers, inchscape shrewsbury try, but its the salesman I bought the car from who gets things sorted and lends me his own car (V6 Touareg) when I need one and collects and delivers the car.

In general I have never found main dealers to be that good after they have sold you the car and that includes porsche, jaguar and bentley. The best I have dealt with was Landrover in Ayr. Sadley it seems to me that it all boils down to personalities. If you can find a person in a dealership who wants to do their job well and is proud of the service they provide you have won half the battle.
