Any idea what the brake disk replacement recomendations are ?

The front ones on my car were changed, but the rear ones havent been, I just want to be sure they dont have to be done as a 4x4 replacement as opposed to a pair, and also is there is a miles spec, i.e replace after 40k or something.

Thanks in advance

No they are not all changed at the same time.

The change point is when the discs are 30 mm thin and any good garage servicing your car should be able to advise you of that dimension and give a likely forecast on remaining mileage left in the discs and pads.

One of the downsides of servicing at 20K intervals is that brakes, steering and suspension are checked less frequently which is why I do an oil change service every year regardless of mileage which, in my case is very low and ask them to inspect and report. For ?100 it is money well spent IMHO.

Unfortunately many of us have suffered VW dealers and KwikFit telling us the discs need changing when they don't and they want ?1,000 to do it! [Sod off, stealers!!]

So do not get them changed at a VW dealer. A good VW specialist will do it a lot cheaper using genuine parts if the car is in warranty and good quality alternatives [sometimes better actually!] if its not.

Run a search on here - there have been lots of good posts recently including a photo guide on how to do it yourself.

Nice one thanks,
I will have the disks checked, as i just got the car if they need doing then the dealer should have done them, actually might be worth getting a dealer to check them and say they need replaceing lol ... you where i am going with this ....

Always good to get one over on the dealers.

There is quite a lip on the rear ones, I would imagin a micrometer will do the job

Many Thanks
