Anyone had this warning before? Car has`nt any symptoms and the ESP is lit up on speedo and does`nt go off.
Just towed 650 miles from France and car was ok . French dealer did`nt know but said car was safe to drive.

Ian,i had this a short while ago.
My esp light wouldn't go off either.
In my case it was a faulty sensor.
As long as the car feels the same as it did before it's safe to drive

Thanks for the reply Nimrod, I assume VW spotted sorted this for you under warrantee??
Ian,yes it was done under warranty,no problem and they did a recall item on the air cooler at the same time.
When you take it in to Vw make sure they check their computer to see if any updates need doing.
You might kill two birds with one stone.

Hi - resurrecting this thread as I'm suffering from the same problem and am getting conflicting advice.

When starting the engine, I get the "brake assist workshop" message and the image of the car on the slope. The ESP light also stays lit.

My local garage (an independent VW specialist) diagnosed a faulty brake pressure sensor as I expected, but have told me that they can't do the work as VW do not release the codes to programme any brake work????

Scouring old threads, some people seem to have had the entire ABS pump replaced at >?1500, whereas there is also advice that the sensor alone can be replaced at considerably less.

Reluctantly it looks like I'm stuck with having to go a main dealer for the work but I'd like to be clued up as to where I stand and what my options are. I'm on an 04 plate so no warranty unfortunately.

Any help much appreciated

Hi Wickyb,
Every now and again I get this warning but, in my case, it is because the handbrake (footbrake I mean) is not released properly. So, once I release the handbrake, before moving, I put my left foot underneath the footbrake pedal to push it up and this solves the problem for me.

Hi - unfortunately it's not that (as I have had to lift the brake pedal like that for the last 12 months anyway!)

I am certain it's the sensor issue as described above, but I'd like to understand the most painless way to get this sorted!

I get this too. Even before it started happening the guy in VW service advised that if it started, then just lift the pedal with your foot.

I have just got this message but there appears to be no change to the Brake Assist function.

Anyone know how much is costs to get the sensor replaced?

Also, I live midway between Wigan and Warrington...which dealer would you use?

Thanks
Matt

Hi

I had this fault appear.

It did indeed turn out to be the brake pressure sensor.

VW Leicester did the job - not a big deal and whilst it was covered under warranty they advised it was less than ?100.
