Since purchasing my vehicle in May 04 ( 2.5 man ) i have had the brake assist workshop light come on on numerous occasions. It has been returned to the dealers a few times with various sensors being changed all to no avail
After its latest visit an explanation was given as to the reason it comes on. Has anyone else come across this or can verify the explanation

If you drive the vehicle and go from stop to 30 km/h on three succesive occasions without removing your foot from the clutch this alarm will appear. apparently just the weight of your foot on the pedal is enough

Obviously this will not apply to all the auto users but was just interested to hear if anyone else had come across this

Have not had opportunity to try it yet

Well they did say it was intentional and was a safety device for the clutch so i assumed it was to prevent continuous riding of the clutch its just odd that if this was the case then the actual warning was not more specific in its description and the fact that it took over a year to explain this to me. Surely if it was intentional they would have known about it from day one and not changed various sensors first

yeah, I agree. This seems to be a common 'car dealer' issue though. I always get the feeling the mechanics/technicians are just never given the time to really investigate or troubleshoot a problem and hence always get pushed into just replacing something in the first instance.

My treg 2.5 tdi manual (Oct 03), doesn't seem to have this problem. I've yet to see this warning light

Also had problems with Brake Assist Warning, but couldn't have been anything to do with the clutch mine is a V10 auto! Warning light would come on just after starting engine after being parked for several hours. If engine was then switched off and re-started light went out and stayed out. Vehicle returned to VW Nottingham, problem resolved, 1 cell on the battery had failed resulting in low battery voltage after the vehicle had been parked for several hours. When engine was started and then switched off again, alternator had raised voltage enough to prevent this happening again until vehicle had been parked for several hours. No problem starting though as my V10 has twin batteries, one for starting, one for everything else and the problem was with the battery not used for starting the vehicle.
