Had noticed a problem with the boot lid over 6 months. Occasionally the boot was reluctant to open, appearing as if the central locking had not disengaged the boot lock. Discovered the reason yesterday. The boot lid appeared stucked, and then heard a whirring noise and clunk as the central locking disengaged. While looking at the small folding chrome plate with central latch near the bumper I noticed that the plate itself wasn't centred, and on investigation the nearside was not flushed with the surround and appear loose allowing excess movement. The spring on the nearside holding the plate appears to have brokened, while the spring on the offside appears intact.
Has any other treggies had the same problem? Car is going in on Friday for tech to investigate. I'll get them to look at the foot release brake handle as well. It occasionally needs 2 pulls to silence the foot brake still applied warning.

Hi Staffs,

The boot latch on my Treg broke about 1 month after I picked it up - was replaced under warranty. The bonus was they have to replace the entire aluminium strip as its all one assembly - so any scratches or damage you may have on it will be gone

I have had the release motor for the glass section replaced under guarantee after it wouldn't stay closed...

Also, my parking brake takes 2 pulls to release it - now I just do it automatically before I get "the bongs"! It's going in for its service on Friday
so it'll be on the list.

The list is short, by the way!

Staffs,
You dont say how old yours is.
Somewhere on this forum, I described a similar problem to yours during the 2004 winter about a month after I picked the car up. I went through a stage of not being able to open the tailgate without having to do it manually by first opening the window flap then reaching inside the tailgate to the manual release which is little known about but might come in useful in the future. Its a small white ringpull of plastic in the nearside tailgate light cluster bin. Access first by removing the small piece of trim on the tailgate. They replaced the electric boot closer under warranty and this seemed to cure it.

Hi,
must have missed that thread. I bought the treg in Oct '03. Must be one of the oldest tregs on the the forum. I don't have the boot closer option, just manual closing with a strong right or left arm.

boot catch sorted in 1 hour by lakeside under warranty while I waited. New catch only, but no new chrome trim. Could be because car is over 2 years old.

Ours was registered on 31.10.2003... we also have regular opening & closing training (i.e. manual)!
