Hi All,

Thinking about replacing my MFD2 with an Alpine unit and associated Sat Nav. Functionality seems great - 7 digit postcode input, motorway lane advice, speed camera locations plus it has bluetooth and ipod integration. It also integrates with the MFSW so all good so far.

Anyone have experience of replacing their MFD2 with a similar aftermarket unit? I am especially interested in integration with the dashboard display, i.e the one between the rev counter and speedo.

thanks, Jon.

I did a fair bit of investigation towards the end of last year and it seems that Pioneer, Kenwood and Alpine all do an interface box that will allow use of the steering wheel control and use the lights on signal for illuminating the unit. None of them will display any info on the DIS though.

You need some other bits too - below is the list of what I needed to fit a Pioneer unit.

Volkswagen Touareg double DIN fitting kit
CTSVW002 CAN-Bus steering control adaptor
Connects2 CAN-Bus Pioneer Adaptor
Pioneer CD-IU200V
Twin Fakra with Active Adaptor

It's worth speaking to one of the car audio specialists (car audio direct provided the list above) to see if anything has changed recently.

Hi,

Thanks for that. I too have been compiling a list of bits I need and got to roughly the same, including an aerial adapter. On the DIS front, presumably things like range, MPG etc will not be affected? I have asked Alpine the question but have not had an answer back yet.

cheers, Jon.

Hi

I have a kenwood all in one unit in my 2005 treg. I saved the ?50 for the adaptor for the steering wheel volume and just used the head unit

The display on mine still shows mpg, gear etc etc just no info from the head unit which bearing in mind it is all displayed on the head unit itself really isnt an issue.

Sat Nav is much better, also includes ipod control, dvd, bluetooth etc

Hi. That's exactly what I am thinking but the wife likes using the steering wheel controls for vol etc. I looked at the Kenwood and that is a serious contender to the Alpine but have Alpine in my other car already. How does it look in the dashboard - do you have any pics you could post/email?

thanks, Jon.

Hi

I had some pics up here on the older version of the forum before it was updated but they dont appear to have transferred.

I will take some at the weekend if you like?

The touareg is my wifes car, my company car has steering wheel controls and to be honest I never notice it being a pain when i drive her car.

It looks fine in the dash as i have used an adpator to make the Treg dash take the double din unit which makes it look pretty standard.
