On Saturday evening I started the treg and went adjust the radio on the steering wheel to find it didnt work! Then realised that none of the buttons were working on the wheel at all, incl crusie control. Plus none of the radio controls on the radio work except the volume and manual station knob. Checked the fuses according to the manual on drivers side and one on the passenger side but all seem to be ok.

Any ideas what it might be? Will be calling the dealer this morning but would appreciate advice as well, especially if it saved me a trip to the dealer, even though the work will be under warranty its time wasted I could do without at the moment.

Had a search around on the forum but couldn't find anything, but aplogises if this has already been discussed somewhere.

Tks

I'm away now for a few days so havent got it booked into the dealers until next Tuesday as that was the next day they could give me a replacement car.

Will let you know what was wrong once I get it back.

sounds like another software bug to me. just one of those things that cures itself if you turn the car off then back on again. I posted a thread not so long ago about software bugs. you should add this to the list.

I have had problem with the cruise control, that is no function from the steering wheel controls and it seems to resolve itself when I switch off the car and then turn it back on again.

Things got worse before they got better!

Went out to Treg on Saturday evening but battery was completely flat, wouldnt even keep the interior lights going. It had been sitting for 2 days before this. Anyway, got it going with a set of jump leads easily enough and drove it over the weekend without a problem. And to my surprise all steering wheel & radio controls started to work again. It was like all it needed was a software reboot!

Went to the dealers this morning as arranged and they ran diagnostics but came up with only the problems they would expect to find when it has has been started using jump leads and that the battery was slightly low so they recharged it. They say that the problem may be a faulty battery but they need to go through these steps to confirm, in order to ensure VW will replace under warranty. This would tie in with the fact that they say if the battery is low the Treg will start to shut down some functionality, ie the wheel & radio controls, so we'll just have to watch it over the next week or so and see what happens. I'm not totally convinced by the explanation, though believe they must be related, as the voltage would still have been low after I started with it the jump leads, however the controls worked imediately!

PS Have any of you ever had to replace the tow hitch cover on an Altitude? I lost mine a while ago, just picked up the new one this morning and it cost over ?100, plus I have to get it painted ........ and all because the cheap pathetic clips that are used to hold it on are useless!!!!!

Yes on both counts!!!!!!!

1. The price is mad!
2. The Alitiude is different to others, its a removable tow bar with a cover that then goes over the area of the bumber with 4 little screws/gromets that hold it on to the bumper when towbar is removed. The cover is about 3 feet long, black but mostly colour coded and when on look fine........ if bloody expensive for what it is!
