Air Con - Lack Of Cold Air...

2230 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  chrisbin
Well after coming back form checking the tow bar wiring worked on Treg (and no it doesn't)
couldnt get cold air out of the Air Con, all the settings show it appears to be working but the air outside is colder even setting it to low...

nothing obivous so visit to dealer i guess not that i hold much hope of them finding fault easily..but i may be lucky..

something wrong on either my Caravan or Car wiring i think it is a bad earth when the brake goes on the brake and sidelights light (well two of the three brake lights on the van lit up...thje high third one didn't) suspect bad earth on car or more likely caravan but it was ok with last car...

the dealer should be able to identify the fault very easily - nearly all VW/AUDI AC systems allow diagnostics of pressures/sensors etc for quick analysis.

It sounds like a refridgerant level/pressure problem - i.e. low level of refridgerant, loss of compressor function, blocked expansion valve, etc etc.

My previous job was development manager for the AUDI A6, A8 and Phaeton A/C system - I dont know the Touareg AC too well, however if the dealer is no use, let me know what they say and I can try to give you some pointers.

Same thing happened to me at the beginning of last September (which was a warm month!!)

Dealer first diagnosed that the a/c needed recharging but it turned out to need a new clutch on the compressor. All in all took 30 days to rectify and I can't recommend a Touareg without climate control on warm sunny days.

Good luck.

Ok thanks - Have it booked in for diagnostics...
The A/C should not need recharging unless it has sprung a leak...hope it does not take 30 days though!!!! can't hear compressor running but that could be for many reasons, i.e no gas or faulty compressor did check fuses all ok.
Guess what - our AirCon isn't working either! Will give VW a call in the morning & get it booked in. Luckily there's rain forecast from tomorrow, so no real rush (although 30 days would be a killer)!
Mine is booked in at Beadles this Monday for warranty work. They were booking over two weeks ahead when I arranged and that was not for a replacement car just a lift back to Kings Hill.

Let's hope the timespan ahead was just cos it was for warranty work and that they are able to see you a lot quicker than two weeks plus.
Mine was out of refrigerant
They could not find the leak
Been filled with dye and await it stopping again.....
Don't worry chaps.....Summer has been and gone now.......
