Hello everyone,
this is my first post as a non Touareg owner, BUT this being the reason i am here.

I am looking into purchasing a Touareg, i have noticed a 5.0 v10 tdi.
Now i at present own a R**** R**** Vogue se 2002, and due to being very unhappy at build quality etc, have after 5months decided to chuck it in for another VW ( once owned a golf 1.8 gti turbo..excellent).

Am i going in the right direction as in model, i do around 6000milesp/a.

All advice would be very helpful and i thank you all in advance

cheers

Lee

p.s If you know someone who wants to buy a RR let me know..

right well this is just what I think.

Having owned a 2004 RR and 2 VW V10.

If I had my time over again and was in the market for a Touareg then I wouldn't look at the V10 not coming from the RR.

go a check out the

3.0lt diesel V6 Touareg that's the one I would go for oh and get the Altitude

no I don't mind you asking.

I know a fair few folks will disagree with me but this is what I think from my experience.

As you know I had a RR with problems

so decided right I'm getting on of those Touaregs

for me I found the V10 to have very little refinement when it came to the engine and TBH honest for the extra money your are spending why should you have to listen to something that sounds quite frankly like a tractor

the 2.5lt Diesel is just the same now anyone can say what they want but what I say is the truth but the only way is go listen and report back what you think.

However as I said previous the 3.0lt diesel well IMO this is much more refined and more of what you would expect.

but as I say it is only my opinion.

Thanks scottie, as you said "lot of money for a tractor noise"
But i will check it out, tried to get info off dealer over email, but very reluctent to give anything away!!!! He quoted "Hi Lee Hopefully you can call in on saturday and we can surprise you on your part exchange and pass a discount on to you "

Trouble is there are not a lot of petrol sports about, looking on VW web page, and i agree with those that say VW web page is not very good..

If you're worried about noise get a V8.... For the money you'd be saving on the price of a V10 and the few miles you do, would over negate the higher fuel consumption...

Engine on mine is a dream..... but again like you I do max of 8-10k a year, maybe not best if you're travelling the length and breadth of the country every day...

the V10 options are available on most of the range, but need to be spec,d when new
in the light of this you will be very lucky to find a second hand one with V10 spec

My input only

I will agree with Fiona around the 3l TDI, fi had my time again it would be my choice

"only now having had the V10 would i consider the V6"

Nice to see all these V10 owners who've realised the error of their ways...!!!

The 3.0 V6 TDi is definitely the best compromise between performance and economy and is very refined - suits the vehicle superbly. Having said that, the V10 will appeal to the hooligan in you with its awesome pulling power!!

Lee - Just noticed that you may think we are referring to the petrol when mentioning 3.0 - its the TDi. The 3.2 V6 petrol is very refined, but the TDi has to be a better bet for fuel consumption/residual values.

There should be a few used 3.0 TDI's around the VW network now...

Re. The dealer - he may well give you a good deal on the V10 as the number of people looking for those will be far less than the V6...

Bottom line - any Treg will put a smile on your face!!! Just check through this site for the things to look out for prior to/when making your purchase.

Hope all that helps!

Not me, I would say as far as I am concerned the V10 knocks the socks off anything else that is not to say the other marks of Touaregs are not good value. Horses for courses...

I had owned L R of various types this is better by far including B*W's

Thanks again gents for all your great input, i see there is certainly a lot of diff opinions around, which is good as it would be boring otherwise!!!!

On a serious note, i think i will look into the 3.0ltr TDI,as not doing much mileage etc, seems a pity to have a 5.0 V10 sitting on the drive allday

But as i said early not a lot of petrol sports, but plenty of TDI's.
unless i travel miles ( Which would be a option if the deal was right) Also undecided as to prt ex the RR or sell privaltey
Again depends on what offers i get

Hi Lee

Have to say having driven them all (work @ VW dealership) the V10 is just somthing else. If it fits within purchase/running costs then you must drive one. Dare you to put your foot down and not have a grin on your face!! I dont think there is anything on the market that is a direct comparison.

Sure you will love whichever one you decide to purchase.

Lee,

Considering your limited mileage, if you want power and refinement you are better off going for the V8 than the 3.0tdi. At the end of the day it's a petrol V8, a diesel 3 litre V6 can't match it for refinement.
Also depends on what RR engine you had- if it was the tdi- then any of the Touareg diesels will do!

As for the Altitude spec, if you want the 'bling' factor to impress the local donut kings on a Saturday night in Sainsbury car park go for it, otherwise Sport spec is better value if buying used.
