7P Vs CR7 mpg

Iv'e noticed the used prices on the CR7 have started to drop a little, and I'm tempted to change my old 63 plate 7P TdI for an early CR7 (probably a 68 plate).

Realistically, am I likely to see any improvement on mpg? I currently average around 28/30 mpg long term. On long runs I usually manage around 37 mpg, and I can occasionally manage 40 mpg if I drive like miss Daisy.

VW say the CR7 Tdi has improved mpg, but i'm always a bit sceptical about manufactures claims.

What sort of mpg does yours do?

The cost to change will surely be far greater than the few quid you might save at the pump?

Very true, but we all need to change up when possible at some point. It would be a nice little bonus if the CR7 had improved mpg, even if only a slight improvement.

personally I would not change hoping and better consumption, I do no see any material technical improvement in the new model. I do not trust official consumption numbers. I recently tested a Cupra Formentor and the consumption was much more than declared.
I think unless you fancy a change or you need something from the new one then stick with what you've got. Even if there is a slight difference, you're still going to get fluctuation with driving style which will probably negate any overall benefits.

And I don't know if Tregs are the same but my wife has a 2020 Golf which has a laptop screen to change even stupid things like the temp. It's a risk in my eyes and has already cost VW thousands in repairs due to SW failures, functions hanging and a new steering wheel.

Newer isn't always better - proceed with caution... ;)

Go and drive one and see what you think of it.

I'm indifferent about the touchscreen. It would be nice to have a few buttons but you can go for an SE, SEL or R-LIne none-Tech if you want buttons. You get standard dials on the binnacle and buttons for various including the heater..
I've driven a few 2022 and 2023 Golfs when I've had them as courtesy cars. I can say from experience the touchscreen controls in the Treg are far far superior.

MPG wise - some have reported 45+ on long motorway runs but it's such a subjective thing as driving styles differ wildly. I see no more than 22/23 driving round town and I can see 35-38 on a long run but I generally don't hang around. Towing I get a standard 26mpg pretty much every time.

I found a big difference between the standard manual seats and the 14way eco comfort (or whatever they're called) seats. Found the standard seats very uncomfortable.

I found the cabin "felt" dark and surprisingly cramped for it's size when there was no pano roof. The pano roof makes it feel a much nice brighter place to be..

Overall 23000 miles the screen says 39 mpg
Around Colchester (not London) 34 ish
Slow cruise up A12 to Norfolk (around 70 mph) nearly 50 mpg
I don't tear about, my dog does not like it
It's not slow, but it is big, quiet and comfortable
