Are these (these being the 3.0 Common Rail TDI) known for ticking for about a mile or two after a cold start?

This cold weather has made me conscious that it certainly ticks a bit on idle and engine speed related until it’s warm.

With the bonnet closed I’ll admit it sounds like it’s coming from underneath, making me think I should get round to changing the transfer box oil now it’s at 67k. I’ve admittedly not tried it with the bonnet up yet.

Just asking now as it was quite loud a moment ago. Silky smooth once warmed up.

It doesn’t sound like cold start change rattle, more like hydraulic lifters out of oil.
