Hi all, I have a 2012 Rline Treg which I am thinking about upgrading to a newer 2017/18 model (not the all new chassis). If I did it I'd want to transfer my towbar so I'd like to know if I just need to remove the towbar and it's switch or will i also need to transfer its wiring harness?

Any guidance is welcomed

I'm not concerned about swapping the fan, this is for a mounted bike carrier.

Thanks

The factory-fit towbar replaces the rear bumper strengthening beam so additionally the 2017 beam would need to be swapped with the 2012 towbar - IF - they are compatible as they are T3/T4 and may have minor differences - both vehicles would need recoding with VCDS.

In practice, as it's just for a bike carrier get an aftermarket towbar fitted for the 2017.

I've not seen an aftermarket towbar that hides away as neat tho, thats why i was looking at the swap.

Or you could get a 2017 with a factory tow bar.

Some salesmen don't realise it's there so don't include it in the advert!

Very true BG - very few VW dealer/independent adverts are accurate, most are simply cut and paste ;)

Always worth checking the photos of inside the boot as the buttons are on the right side for tow bar deployment (left buttons of the pair.... right set of buttons being air suspension), helps when the advert or sales people don’t know if it has or hasn’t already got the factory tow bar.
