Ive had my 2012 3.0 v6 Altitude since new and have had zero issues in its 47k until recently.
When the outside ambient temperature is above 18 deg C, starting and idling is quite rough for only a few minutes, then perfect running again.
When the outside temperature is lower than this , there is no problem at all. Could this be a temperature sensor going out of its range or possibly something else.
Has anybody else had this issue before.

My 2014 3.0v6 does a similar thing, 55k. Start from cold in a morning not an issue, start from hot not an issue.

Start up at lunchtime when the temperature gauge says cold but obviously holding a little residual heat from the mornings drive & it has a tendency to hunt on tickover, I just give it a rev to say 1500rpm for a few seconds & it generally gets the idea & plays ball.

Might be due some fuel cleaning additive, that's helped before when my old T2 did the same.

No idea what's causing it, as you say, a myriad of sensors sorting themselves out

Sounds very much the same niggle here, Ive started to use Shell V-power for a few weeks but its still happening.
Having said that with the weather now cooling down it won't happen now until next summer. I will however run on V-power for a while and
let the detergents do their trick. Hope yours sorts out as well.

Do you know which temp sensor it could be, as there are quite a few.

Could be, coolant temp sensor or ambiant temp sensor. But no idea where they are.

Similar symptoms as in my Treg, if the outside temperature is around 18 deg C, it would run rough on idle for max 15 seconds.
Dealer replaced all injectors during the warranty period but it didn't solve the problem. That was couple of years ago.

More in this thread:
https://www.mytreg.c...idle-when-cold/

In July, 2019 I asked again if they had similar reports on other Tregs, and their answer was yes, and only solution provided from VW is to replace injectors.
This time they used some injector cleaning solution, but if it helped - it only helped for short period of time.

I showed them couple of other forum suggested solutions, can't remember exactly which one, and they checked them and couldn't find other issues.

So, now I'm at 190k km, Treg is still going strong. 💪

Just to add an update with mine, using a few tank fulls of Shell V Power made no difference, injector cleaner helped but now its turned cooler its fine again. Had the same on my previous T2 I had for 8 years & 130k miles

I believe that it's in combination with the boost pressure sensor.

Surely the intake temperature sensor will be on the low pressure side of the turbo while the boost sensor will be on the high pressure side ?

I'm thinking after the intercoolers...

Surely the air temp actually going into the engine is what the system needs to know, it doesnt matter what the ambient is at all, I agree with chaser, it should be after the turbo and intercooler.
Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 now gone and replaced with the opposite end of the pollution scale, BMW i3 electric car, one word, love it. Previous cars 4.4TDV8 Range Rover, 2006 Touareg 3.0 TDi (Superb Car), Audi Allroad 2.5 TDI (Also Great Car).
If youre old fashioned and still burning fossil fuels, MORRISONS fuel which is the best choice for all Touaregs.
P.S. Watch the mods here, they do dark and devious things when youre not looking LOL

Yes, you're right thinking about it a bit more.

Just had a quick look for mine. Photo shows the likely candidate in the intake ducting just before the throttle/anti shudder valve. This is a 2017 my so could look slightly different on an earlier model but location should be similar.
VCDS will confirm if it is actually a combined sensor by checking inlet temperature reading then disconnect and read again.

Mine has being doing this again in recent warm spells, symptoms as described previously, have to give it few revs (1500 or so) to clear its throat as it were & it settles down.

Would be interested to know if anyone nails this down & even better comes up with a part number / part name to look out for, not keen on getting a run around by the usual stealership ignorance / incompetence if it can be avoided ;)

Update to this, I took mine to a recommended Independent VAG specialist.

No fault codes found, however, when a camera was inserted into the pipework to check for blockages etc, they revealed major build up of soot & crap, its having a thorough chemical clean & further removal & clean up of the intakes & DGR valve etc in 10 days. Will report back with proper details after I have had it done.
