Nope, never owned a VW before. I've had 3 top end Volvo executive saloons for comfort and longevity which were arguably prestige class, a Lexus because I fell for the hype and was ultimately disappointed and a host of every day average Joe saloons and hatchbacks from Ford and Vauxhall interspersed with the very first model of the Honda Prelude while posted in Germany which was good enough to keep up with the original Golf GTi. The wife also had an Imprezza which drove us mental with the noise inside the cab meaning you couldn't hold a conversation at much over 60mph. My first "prestige" car was a Rover P6 3.5 V8 which I got from a farmer who was keeping his chickens in it. I swapped him an old Bedford GPO van in puke yellow/orange.

White 1973 Beetle 1303S (reg SUD 846L, you never forget these things :D ) fully restored by me to showroom condition, right up to the point a van pulled out in front of me at a junction. Write off. I was inconsolable for weeks.

Two Passats.First was a '96 model. One of the first "domed roof "models and then a year 2000 Sport which was written off after being rear ended in an M6 queue near Knutsford.I was stationary and watched in my mirrors a Volvo S60,with the driver busily looking at his passenger, heading towards me at full motorway speed.I don't think he even saw that we were stationary before he hit me.He shunted me into a three day old 5 Series which was also written off.The Police told me that if I had been in a "lesser" car I wouldn't still be here.
I've been a bit of a VW fan ever since.

I'm a VW 'enthusiast" so have always driven them (or Audi) ranging from supercharged Polo G40's to Corrados (was a nut with these, had 17 of them over a 10 year period)and campervans, and the Touareg is without a shadow of a doubt the most luxurious and comfy to drive, but on the flipside its also way way way more unreliable than the 30+ VW's I've owned before.

I had a Mk2 GTI only 8 valves but big bumpers. That was early 90's, if I'm not mistaken the hair and shoulder pads would have matched the big bumpers - now it's the belly :-)

Then in mid noughties I had the V6 petrol Treg.

A real battle between these two for which was my favourite car ever.

Now getting ready to return to the T family.

Had far too many cars over the years, but prior to this, my current favourite, I’d had 2 Mk1 tiguans and 4 Mk2 tiguans ( 2 of which were replaced by cracking dealer after issues)
If this stays reliable it’s a keeper
70 Plate V6 SEL Tech,

Deep pearl black, Vienna leather, 19” Tirano black alloys
No optional extras ( that I’m aware of yet!)
