Hi all,
I am looking for a retrofit tow bar for my new to me 2014 r line. I am after a detachable bar, and am struggling to find a manufacturer who can guarantee fitment.

I have spoken to a very helpful guy at FP Jones called Adam. It seems that the rear bumper on the R line bulges out so that when the swan neck ball is fitted there isn't much clearance between the Alko hitch and the bumper. This has been confirmed by Westfalia, Witter and Brink.

Adam from FP Jones has confirmed he has sold detachables for R Lines in the past, but is not sure for what purpose (such as traitor or cycle carrier)

Surely the R Line Touareg can be fitted with a detachable tow bar that is suitable for use with an Alko hitch.

Would you kind and helpful folk please advise if you do, and what manufacturer tow bar you use

Cheers

AFAIK, the clearance on any Touareg T4 is small, with R-Line less than SE/Escape but enough for an Alko stabiliser hitch - better with the fine control from using a mover.

I've not heard of one with greater clearance so they're pretty much all the same.

Hi Yes confirm that, my R Line has a factory fitted swing down but clearance is minimal, but enough for my Alko Stabiliser hitch.

Thanks for the update Black Grouse.

I am a dab hand with the motor mover, so hitching and unhitching is not my concern. But adequate clearance for the Alko stabiliser and rear bumper is.

Will most likely go for the Westfalia option.

Cheers
