Great write up, just a couple of minor points.....

1) why rubber or Hyde mallet when taking off the old disks, they're scrap anyway.
2) I would check the runout before refitting the calliper just in case it all has to come off again.

Good Qs;

1. Keep the noise down and you can use it to fit the new :)
2. Yes I did that but forget to photograph it that way so stuck the gauge back on for the photo.. Posted Image

Thank you for that, clearer now. I'd already spotted the 270NM - mine's only rated to 200NM, so as you say humungous ...

Loz,

Would you check this?

"where the disc is either not mounted flat on the hub or possibly even warped the disk would wobble.
As directed by the manual I fitted a magnetic dial gauge to measure the runout(wobble?) on the edge of the disk and it must be within 0.001 of a mm"

Bit optimistic?

They do run true if you can bolt them up properly as you cannot rely on just the single taper screw to hold it tight to the hub. I thoroughly brush and wet/dry the hub face and spray with brake cleaner every time the disc is removed.

Thanks Loz, I'll make sure the lad does that properly when I get new discs shortly, now due to wear limits. But shall I get him to check the run-out to within +/- 0.1mm (4 thou in Christian units) rather than wotyourote which is somewhat impractical? Sorry about the smartarse impression, just wanting to be sure, otherwise very appreciative of your instructions.

Are there any services you don't provide to fellow Treg enthusiasts ... Thanks again.

Fitted Winter Wheels/Tyres this morning. Checked the disks while the wheels were off - fronts (30.6mm - min is 30mm) and rears (26.7mm - min is 26mm), so after 35,000 miles I'm going to do both fronts and rears over the next couple of weeks. Brembo bits ordered from Amazon for fronts. Checking out suppliers for Rears having read your hints & tips on that too. Thanks again ...

Hi Loz

"as this is my second set of pads I will also change the disks."

See you mike-ing disc, was it within limits ? they look in good nick, i've seen worse, a lot worse!!.

Read somewhere limit 1 mm ! , not a lot. Can you tell me what the new thickness is ? is it stamped on the hub?,

On the limit and slightly scored so time to change anyway.
1mm each side 2mm overall they are 32 new. You can see the data on the brembo online catalogue I have posted previously.

Loz - great write up & very useful. My 30,000 mile 2013 R-Line isn't braking as well as it did and as I said in a previous post VW want £1,000 to replace disks & pads all round. A couple of questions if I may (it's actually three ...)

1. How on earth do you find out what parts are required as everywhere I look, even if I type in my vehicle details precisely, there seem to be several options for both disks and pads?

Thanks, MMW

Mark, you should have a sticker in the boot (under the carpet) and in the front of your handbook like my attachment. As you can see, my rear brakes were 1KQ and my front 1LE.

16,000, but last service asked to check " creaking calliper syndrome" told pads sticking and recommended renew same, due to glazing and cracking.

going to use attached, as guide, for changing parts or not. (page 18)

Not very relevant to the Touareg apart from the very general description of disc and pad wear.

I understood that, mine are 1LE front and 1KF rear but what I'm asking is there a template stating what the fields are?

I've changed my front discs and pads last week at my local garage.I've used Brembo discs and pads on my 3.0 v6, 14 reg Treg.
Yesterday when I replaced my tyres with summer ones I had a look at the discs and noticed the one on passenger side(the one that I've checked) had the part number 9868.11.
Checked on Brembo site and the serial number is suppose to be right side one(driver side).
Have they fitted wrong side discs or the manufacturer's right side is as you face the car?
